If I won 100 million I would give 99 million of it away to deserving charities etc. Only got a tiny family so would see them ok too.

It wouldn't be Capital Gains (Cash is exempt from CGT for a start), it would just be taxed as income (savings)

So at that amount it would be the new 45% rate (no personal allowance either...oh noes!) so it would be:

Tax = 275,000 x 0.45 = £123,750
NI = calculation = £5,768

Total deductions : £129,518

Leaving only £145,482 / month to live on!!

So totally not worth it now :p

Sorry, what? Since when do you pay tax on savings in this manner?

Are you saying that the Government will hit you with a tax bill for money you have in savings?

Perhaps I am reading it wrong as I just woke up after a heavy night :o

You pay tax on interest (the monthly payments).
In any case, I think this "problem" is something that all of us would be happy to have. Unfortunately, the odds are that none of us will ever have this problem.

So, you wouldnt want to buy a property?
If you spend say £0.5M on a medium size property (not a mansion), that only leaves you with £0.5M, which will not last for long.

£2.60 yay \o/

same, first thing that came in the last... many... many months :(

I think I would **** my pants if I won that much.

Aye, I think anything more then 5-6 would be way too much for me. I don't want to change my current lifestyle at all (outside of leaving my job, not interested in latest gadgets or cars and things like that). Just want to travel to interesting places and not have to have a 9 to 5 job so I can work on my own projects (developer), which I think 5-6 would let me do just that.

But my "dream" plan for a large sum is to buy a whole load of property around major cities and run a letting agency, profits from which would go towards running a charity helping homeless people in that city. It would give an address for those homeless people and help them get started with jobs. I think that would be a worth while investment.

Charities will waste an absolute ton of that money, and 1 million is not enough to see you and your entire family right for the rest of their lives.

I find that statements like yours are made by people with no real concept of money or who have scraped by all their lives on very little.

it's like the woman a decade or so ago who won the Euromillions, and in her news paper interview said: "Oh it's great, I think the first thing I will do is buy my son an Xbox".

I mean FFS, why not a special lotto for people with no dreams or aspirations. Ok of course that wouldn't happen, but I do weep inwardly when I see the type of people who win these vast amounts, and haven't got the slightest idea of what they now have. They would have the same reaction with a 10th of the amount they win, and imo that is somehow cosmically unfair on the people who do have a clue what to do with the cash.

If I won I'd donate most of it to worthy causes so it could really make a difference to someones life..
..

Nice collection of cars, decent supply of women, awsum bachelor pad...

141 millions means my dream of building a club from scratch, and running it on a non-profit basis could be a reality!
