Europa Universalis IV

I only caught a bit of it live but it looked like fun :)

Did you stay as the same team (i.e. b5) throughout?

No. Lubeck persuaded everyone that I was too dangerous to stay in Germany, let alone make Prussia which could have screwed their power play.

And even if we had an agreement (German Bund) between Saxony, Brunswick and Pomerania with Lubeck added at the end, they backstab us.

So we ended up in Lan Xang which made a name for ourselves and became quickly too dangerous to be left alive there, so ended up with the small Jianshou.... Which we formed to a relative massive Manchu fighting at the end war.

I will go to a big post of everything happening, but I am pleased didn't ended up a 3 province minor vassal to Nepal like Brunswick (Hanover) or in a dead game like Saxony on life support doing nothing on my own. We fought to the final war, smashing the Aztecs initially and even the Prussian and Swiss armies, becoming the 5th most participant country in the world war. Regardless if we were small (500 development) in relation to others who just sat doing nothing.

And we could have be done better if my other two team mates aren't safe players but aggressive like myself.

On the plane from Wroclaw to Munich atm.

BTW no every day had different pc. First day was on B room so B5 looks correct number. Day 2 we were on D room and day 3 on C room, I believe c5 basically I was the one making the sarcastic comments about prussia not been German enough, and smolensk not been Russia.

@Panos Is the steam on VOD? Been away for most of the weekend and wouldn't mind watching a bit.

The streams are on below link, all 27 hours
https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive/videos?filter=archives&sort=time

The event was fun, a lot of backstabbing but physically exhausting also. Had to do miles upon miles every day to form alliances, organize deals, coordinate troops.
Also my team, while the guys were OK, couldn't for 3 days explain to them that this is multiplayer and not single player game. That you always have to be on massive debt, at war be twice or more over the army cap, looming bankruptcy while at war is perfectly. You either win the war and pay the debt or lose the war and care less.
To the point they got shocked when said to them 1h before the game end "use the money and raise 100,000 mercenaries", while arguing that should pay down the debt!!!!!!!!!

We lost Pomerania when I left and went to eat on Thursday night. Had prepared the army to attack the Livonian Order and the guys joined the 5 coalition wars against Brunswick for no reason.

For next year, I will try to find players exactly similar to me and not have the organisers assign the team. Because thinking going for Prussia again, because is sad to see 2 years in row the sorry state of this country, or England (because after this year there are going to be more pirates next year). :D

Which kudos to them. They even gave the "Black Spot" to Genoa (another pirate nation) on the last day of the game. :D
While moving around the castle with eye patches, painted jolly rogers shouting yarrrrrrr.

I'll have a bit of a watch of the streams on the weekend while I'm putting together and setting up my new machine, should be a nice thing to have on in the background.
Haven't watched the streams yet. They are 28 hours worth of and still trying to recover from all the drinking with the players there, especially the Finns and their Molotov cocktail Jaloviina.
Also the drinks at the hotel were so cheap, $2 beer, and less than $3 the other drinks and barely any sleep. Sessions ended around midnight local time with the after speech. We opened the vodka and whiskey bottles (everything dirty cheap) and suddenly was 5:30am. Sleep 3 hours, get up for breakfast (5-6 coffees) and prepare for next session.

Ofc many went to bed asap, but for a score of us, sitting next to the big fireplace in the big hall, with it's atmosphere and original decoration felt like we live on previous centuries.
Those things aren't built any more :(

Heads up if people are not aware this is arriving on xbox game pass for PC soon, itll just be the main game with no expansions likely but is a good way to play it if you want to test the waters and have game pass.

Vanilla EU4 vs Imperator (both games are on the xbox game pass), I would pick Imperator for new comers unfortunately.
EU4 is good game only with several DLCs bolted to it, as the base game is pretty limited. And that from me, which loves the EU4 fanatically.

Currently an ongoing thread of PDX forums floating the idea, for the umpteenth time, about switching to a subscription model. Makes for some interesting reading and wouldn't definitely make it easier for new players to get into without having to ***** £200 on a 7 year old game...

Interesting indeed. but surely that’s what the game pass is for, of sorts

Subscription model would cost more in long term, no thanks. Atm you can spend £15 and get all expansions with the game, not £200.
Also 4 times a year has 75% discount on everything and last two summers, was for sale a package with everything including cosmetics except the licenced music for £25.

Also doesn't need to own all DLCs. Except the must have 4, the rest just add flavour and some playable countries and mechanics. Nothing major.
Same applied to CK2.

The game pass as in Xbox? Sure, but I think that's only the base game?

I could understand a PDX subscription, with access to all games and DLC, but as an individual game I don't see how it would be viable. The current player base will have invested in DLC for the most part already, and I don't see new players fancying paying anything above a couple of £ a month - and at that rate I don't see them making money.

There was a post with a reasonably good suggestion of changing the price-cycle or DLC, eg full price for 6 months, 25% off 6-12 months, another 25% the next 6 months etc and then eventually bundling it into the base game 2 years after DLC release. That way a new player can come in, get a lot of content for a single, justifiable cost and then invest further if they want more (recent) content quicker than a 2 year cycle.

It's certainly an interesting discussion; seemed a little messy at the start as the subscription idea was found in the game files in an otherwise empty patch but at least they've been transparent since then.

Sorry that was my bad. In Hearts of Iron 4 there was a expansion pass which gave you access to a number of DLC and addon packs. This worked out excellent value. But I'm not sure anything exists for EU.

HOI4 came well after EU4.

PDX on it's own games from Imperator onwards, follow a different policy. 1 paid DLC per year now in the form of expansion and couple of free ones.
No multiple different variances of cosmetics etc like they went berserk with CK2 & EU4.

Except there's a unit model in the files that's tagged as unique for subscribers only... ;)
