European Grand Prix 2012, Valencia - Race 8/20

Off course it is relevant, you can't just take another setup from a very different driving style and think it's a magic fix.

Not a magic fix, I agree. BUT, if a driver is intelligent, he will change/adapt his driving style to suit the car. This may take a few races, but it is possible. Unfortunately Button doesnt seem to be able to do this (going on past seasons).

When the car works to his liking Button is every bit as fast as Hamilton (in the race). Last year was proof. But when the car is little "dodgy" and requires the driver to hustle the car, he is unable to make the car work well.

We can only hope that he is getting a lot of simulator time, practising Hamilton's setups of the last few races...but knowing McLaren it wouldn't surprise me if they are sending him to this weekend without any practise. McLaren have a habit of missing the obvious trick.

It's quite clearly practice lol.

Car is pushed in, no safety gear and listen to the cars on track, Defo not F1.

In which case, it counts for very little.
Doing a pitstop in the heat of battle is quite different, to a practise stop when there is no pressure.

I'd also be interested to see their other practise stops. There must be plenty of "horror" stops that we, the public, have not been treated to.

It's got to be so different when the car is coming in at speed, If the driver misses his point slightly or isn't dead straight, Other cars and crews all over the place.

I agree it doesn't show much.

I don't buy into this in the slightest why do you think any driver can change their driving style in a few races? do you have any examples where a driver has changed style in a few races and gone from struggling to doing great?

Even the great Michael Schumacher could not adapt his driving style to mask a poor car, he drove it the same way until such time the team gave him the car he needed. Ferrari did not say, oh sheesh Michael just change your style and adapt, they gave him the car he needed for his style.

:D

Made me lol, Massa can keep dreaming - even if they gave him the "super" tyres I doubt he would finish in the top 5.

Should be an interesting weekend - I like the prospect of a battle between Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton for the remaining races :)

The car is much better for Massa now we seen that in Monaco and even in Canada minus the stupid mistake, it's not a very challenging track for the driver so if the Ferrari is good with more updates they are bringing then he will have a chance as much as anyone really.

“Can I be that eighth winner?” Felipe asked himself. “If you look at how many things have changed in this year’s races, with strategy and other situations, then many drivers have the chance to win and sure, I put myself in this category. I would be very happy to be the eighth winner.”

Don't see much wrong with that really.

But I know it's cool to bash Massa here but you did say you like healthy debate ;)

Lewis Hamilton doubts Fernando Alonso's comments over Ferrari link-up

Hamilton is sceptical of claims made by Fernando Alonso that the British driver would be welcome at Ferrari. Hamilton's contract runs out at the end of the season and there will be a vacancy at Ferrari, because Alonso's team-mate Felipe Massa is unlikely to have his agreement renewed.

When Alonso was asked if he would be prepared to work with Hamilton again he offered a magnanimous shrug and said: "No problem."

But when Hamilton was told of this he said: "Of course he [Alonso] is going to say that. I would say the same thing, whether it was true or not."

:p

It would be good fun. Although I expect both drivers have matured enough to not fall into a childhood squabble again.

But of all the teams on the cards, Ferrari haven't performed enough over the last few years to entice Hamilton to them. Hamilton himself has said his primary aim is to be in a position to win every race. RBR and McLaren are, on recent performances, in a better position than Ferrari in that regard.

I personally think its between RBR and McLaren for Hamilton, with a backup plan of Mercedes should Schumacher retire.

Lol Lewis not doing anything help stop rumours that he might be leaving McLaren. He's just been to the Redbull garage checking out Vettel's car, and now he's having a chat with Marc Gene

No I'm doubtful it'd happen, but does make for catchy headlines :p

It's much more fun them racing against each other anyway :)

Yeah, having everyone at the front fighting for the championship in different cars makes for good watching.

"Sorry Martin, can't stop to talk contracts, I've got a lunch booked with Christian"
