European Grand Prix 2012, Valencia - Race 8/20

hamilton wouldnt have squeezed him into the wall if there was one.

he only tried to squeeze him knowing maldonado would have to give the position back, pitty he decided not to use the run off but i imagine hamilton wont try that again in a hurry

So it's ok to run someone off the track as long as its safe to do so?

I think people need to take a step and remove their allegances from the situation and look at what they are saying.

People on here are, with perfectly straight faces, suggesting that when a driver catches another, the driver in front should move over and let him by.

Regardless of the specifics of the situation in question, that general train of though it just stupid.

erm your the most vocal of them

your the one constantly saying how you love DRS because it only lets the faster drivers be in their rightful place.......

didnt you cry about dirty schumacher at monza last year aswell because he didnt just give hamilton the position?

i guess its totally different when its a british driver that has to move over though init because the fia is out to get him

Alonso must have thought all his Christmas's came early with both Hamilton and Vettel not finishing, coupled with a win......

...to top it off, it was Valencia! ^^

As for LH, I'd be very surprised if Maldonado doesn't get some kind of punishment (maybe he already has, I havent looked), but he wasn't on the track so should have lifted and let LH take the place again.

edit, I see that he has had his point taken away. I would have preferred something a bit more harsh seeing as he effectively robbed Hamilton of several more points.

No I'm not, no I don't, no I didn't, and no they aren't.

How can fault be pinned on Hamilton? His car was finished, and you could see he was fighting to keep it on the track.

You have the right to push someone wide if you have track position, the "one car's width" rule is for braking zones. It was obvious had Maldonado kept his head he'd have mugged Hamilton before the flag.

Maldonado should have dropped in behind Hamilton and got the drive out of the corner. Instead, he went in too deep, there was no room on the outside and he ran wide. By keeping his foot in there were only going to be 2 outcomes.. Smash into Hamilton or overtake him on the run off.

go read the canada thread you spent 2 whole pages defending DRS

No, I said DRS was rubbish, but slightly less rubbish than the alternative of processional races.

The fact you went back 4 pages to find a quote of mine to try and pull apart says it all really...

exactly his car was finished the smart person wouldnt have bothered fighting so hard to maintain a position he was never going to keep

With 1 lap left, he may well of kept it...

The smart person doesn't expect to be t-boned when driving the line he was entitled to...

"Oh.. I'll just let him by because I probably wont keep the place" is not a good mentality to have when you're racing for championships.

Hold on - Lewis has been bleating on and on about being 'consistent' this season and ensuring he finishes every race to just 'get points'. There was no way he could've stopped Pasta passing him in the remainder of the race.

I said it earlier in the thread - a leopard cant change his spots - this is a return to the Lewis we all know and love - hot headed and not very smart. It certainly makes the racing more exciting.

Lewis had by far the most to lose here - and he's now 23 points shy of Alonso. This is exactly the sort of behavior he said he'd stop.

There has yet to be a coherent arguement made by anybody as to the incident being anything other than completely Maldonado's fault.

Yes Hamilton could have let him past, but that was
a) His prerogative, not a requirement of him
b) Categorically not the place on the track to do it

Hamilton's tires had clearly gone and a bit of clear headed thinking by Maldonado would have seen him past shortly thereafter down a straight. He caused the incident and was correctly given a penalty. Hamilton, in this instance, was completely blameless. Maldonado on the other hand is starting to look like a liability.
