European Grand Prix 2012, Valencia - Race 8/20

Lol FIA...

3 avoidable collisions that either took a driver out of the race, or severely damaged it:

1x retrospective drive through
1x 5 place grid penalty
1x 10 place grid penalty and a fine

Later on News Tonight; FIA in poor consistency scandal.

Up first however, The Earth is discovered to be round by a team of leading researchers.

And low and behold:

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh believes Lewis Hamilton should have been more cautious in handling his battle with Pastor Maldonado in the closing stages of the European Grand Prix.

Hamilton crashed out of the Valencia event after a clash with the Venezuelan driver as they battled for third on the penultimate lap - losing him vital points in the world championship standings.

Although the stewards said that Maldonado was to blame for the incident, and handed him a 20-second time penalty in lieu of a drive-hrough for what happened, that brought little consolation to Hamilton or his McLaren team.

But judging by the difficulties that Hamilton was having at the time of the incident with his tyres, and knowing how aggressive Maldonado is as a driver, Whitmarsh suspects that his man would have been better off giving his rival more room than other rivals he had fought with earlier in the event.

Even Mclaren management are saying it...
That last sentance is pretty much what I said above.

You missed the key quote:

"My own view is that it was Maldonado's fault, and it is deeply frustrating – but he is a racing driver and that is it. I am sure in hindsight you have to say that dealing with someone like that you have to take a different approach, but you cannot anticipate it."

Of course with hindsight we can say all sorts, but you cannot anticipate that a driver will hit you, and neither should you need too.

The actual quotes don't fit with the journo's story tho

When asked if he thought Hamilton should have defended so hard, Whitmarsh said: "Clearly not, but you are dragging me into the conversation.

"In my mind, you saw him defend with [Romain] Grosjean and with [Kimi] Raikkonen, and he didn't do anything different with Maldonado. It was a different outcome, but he didn't do anything different with those drivers.

So in summary:

Hamilton didn't do anything different with Grosjean and Kimi, both found a way through without problem, Maldonado failed to find a clean way through.

Witmarsh thinks Hamilton should have given Maldonado more room because he's a hot head.

Is there any real revelation there? Obviously it's easy for Witmarsh to say that after the whole incident happened. Why do we have to put up with a driver out there that has to be given more room because he's a known idiot?

That's just your typical political answer. Lowering the tensions between the two drivers.

It's just going to fuel the anger if they come out and say "Maldonado is an idiot," in a few more words.

Well maybe the drivers should meet to discuss it just like they did about Lewis ramming anything that moved (and was red) last season :p

maldonado spotted a gap.
if he didnt go for the gap
hes nolonger a racing driver

hamilton should show some respect for the other f1 competitors and give them room.

he doesnt even give button room... his mentality causes all these incidents

He needs to sit down with a nice cool can of energy drink, and think about what team will give him the Wings he needs to take more titles, and allow him to keep his Bull-ish attitude...

:D

:)

I'm hoping that will happen if Mark does a one year at Ferrari. Lewis's comments on Sky about not being in a rush were spot on. He really needs to wait and see whose the first to jump.

I think it's the pairing I want more than any other.
