European Grand Prix 2016, Baku - Race 8/21

Surely if it is a fault the team can tell him how to fix it?

They aren't telling him how to optimise performance.

It's not a fault, just something in the wrong mode and they can't tell him what to change. Welcome to modern F1, a total ******* joke.

They said it was nothing he had done.

Sounds like one of the modes has gone faulty. This only materialised half way through the race.

Adapt, drive round the problem, learn the steering wheel buttons better?
It is his job after all, I'd expect the drivers would/should have a good understanding.

You mean where he just didn't have any pace? Rosberg doesn't deserve to be in the lead of the championship.

I know it is the Hamilton love-in here, but he doesn't deserve to lead, in your opinion.
The fact is, he is leading...

I'd personally rather none of the Merc drivers were in it, but you can't argue with numbers.

So, when he next stops, can the team lean into the car and change things on his wheel for him, or even replace the steering wheel with one programmed differently?

The fact we have to even ask such questions and can't answer them without trawling through endless regulations is what's wrong with this sport.

That's just it. They said it was nothing Hamilton had done when he mentioned that he was looking for which switch is out of place.

If I told you there was a random fault with one of the settings, how would knowing the switches any better help you?

On the one hand, I don't like the idea that an engineer can give a driver an advantage by saying 'your team mate adjusted their break bias by x going into turn y and improved over your time by 100th second'.

On the other hand, if there's an obvious issue with the car due to a computer issue, and the engineers know that they could fix it by changing the engine mode to D4, surely there isn't an issue with that…
