EV general discussion

Nice what kind of charging facilities and rates will you get in Germany , or tbd.

...
(yes I hadn't realised leaf e+ is 62Kwh .... seems it is, indeed, a 1.7T light weight too)

The new cupra born vz looks great. Improvement over mine and that new AP550 motor sounds really nice boost to torque. Longer geared so will address the drop off after 55mph. 5.7 0-60 too

79kwh battery up to 170kW too. I’ve been impressed with the ID buzz charge speeds as it’s a really good ‘area under curve’charge curve

Agree these look like a good update/ additional model, just about the perfect amount of power given the weight and drivetrain etc too.

2% battery as well.............. they have bigger cahoonas than i have that is for sure. As soon as i get under 10% i start to get twitchy. I am no expert but isnt the remaining charge in car batteries a bit of a guess, and depends on how well balanced the battery is?

2% is not a lot of margin for error.
I knew I'd get home and there are a couple of charging points a couple of miles from the house as well if I was really stuck. I'd given it a proper 100% charge a couple of days earlier as well as I don't think it had ever been fully charged before I bought it as the indicated range was a bit low - after fully, fully charging it the indicated range increased a bit. I assume they work similar to the batteries I've got in my house and spend the last bit of charging balancing. It took a little while when it showed 100% to actually stop drawing power whilst the range went up a bit as well.

If i'd been going not home then I may have started to look around for somewhere to charge but I knew I'd be able to charge when I got home so 2% was fine.

I actually have no idea, it's all getting better but it's still fragmented across the different states and so on. There's apparently a plan to unify everything but when that'll happen, who knows. We'll mostly be charging at home anyway, and my wife gets free charging at her workplace (for now, I don't think it'll last).

I would have loved a Tavascan, but they arent out till late this year it seems. Im a test drive away from ordering a ID7 fastback. I was set for a Enyaq sportline, but the ID7 appeared on our scheme for not much more.

Despite the grief VAG group have gotten for their offering in the EV market, after testdriving pretty much everything thats got a range of 250 and up, the ID4/5/ENYAQ still seem an excellent product overall. Tesla do the tech thing the best, BMW I4 is the best to drive and koreans look the funkiest. The only ones i cant get my hands on is the Mach E and Q4.

saloon aerodynamics of the ID7 are nice, can only hope the range imperative of ev's leads to a saloon renaissance -
hint : public are fickle to a well presented marketting campaign - it will be greener ?
Pity id7 is nearly 5m - a touring offspring of id3/born and id7, to match the 4.5m length of my current 3touring please.

Oh look a saloon with batteries is really long and jpaul is suprised.

You can not be describing the public as “fickle” when you have not got any of the options yourself. Defining what should and should not be is being fickle.

#popefickle.

I didnt like the Ariya, the stupid grills in the door annoyed me :p

The EV6 & MG4 are worth a look. Toyota seemed quite expensive for what it was imo. I like Volvo, but again depends what the deals are right now, on our company scheme, the personal contribution is quite high. Merc EQB on the other hand is as cheap as the Enyaq. If you can get past the looks, Tesla Model Y, is a great car.

Seeing so many posts about used Etrons being an absolute money pit. The misted up virtual mirrors and poorly designed leaky sunroof being the main causes of peoples woes.

Model Y was the most expensive car on our scheme till xmas, it was around 450 for the long range, its half that now. EQE300 AMG is the current interesting choice, its around £300, its a saloon so no good for me, but its a cracking looking car imo.

That seems a bargain, given the EQE300 is a £75k rrp car

Must be really struggling to sell many at that price I suspect
