To be fair any TV show comparing ICE to EV is always going to swing one way and if we're being honest it gives greater viewing figures on both sides for different reasons.

As a tribal species we love to clan up wherever possible. City vs United, Left vs Right, Petrol vs Electric... pathetic really but we are what we are I guess.

Unfortunately left v right even extends to electric cars and green energy in general the right wing press and the Telegraph in particular take it to MAGA levels of denialism its plain deluded and honestly demented at times. Yeah I know material for SC really.

Lets hope so because the main negative to the Ioniq 5 N for me was that it has zero desirability in the looks department, no wow factor, and of course at £65k, its a strong ask to sit in something that is not great looking and has a budget interior despite a software defined driving experience that blows every other EV I have driven away. You can let one thing slide sometime for a generally good thing but not too many things.



Feedback is a big part of the driving experience.

I've got an Ioniq 5N coming in about 4 weeks. Obviously looks are a personal preference. For me, it was between an i5 m40, EV6 GT and the 5N. I thought the 5N looked the best as I couldn't get on with the front of the i5 and the rear of the EV6. However in reality, a few months in it'll be driving experience that makes the car and the 5N is miles ahead there.

i have to admit when i 1st saw this phenomenon of EVs sounding like an ICE, i thought it was pretty lame... then i learned of the 5N and it introducing fake gears and i really thought what the actual F?!!!

however after thinking about it, i realise i just had a stick up my ass!. its not like it cant be turned off... and if it makes driving fun and engaging then that is brilliant. i would love to have a go in one.

also was completely hypocritical of me. i spend a small fortune on sim racing gear, when i could just use an xbox pad...........

i think it is great what they are doing with the 5N and if it gets some petrol heads on board then even better still.

Especially as it's slower in a drag race, using the gears compared to single speed mode.

You can just leave it in auto mode and have the sounds, vibration and feedback without having to play with paddles, it really is very good or you can just have one big gear like the Abarth, or just go silent mode.

Of course it is slower but even in slow interactive mode it is faster than most things, plus it is not just a one trick straight line drag EV.

A slow car you can engage with vs a silent car that's faster, its not even a choice, bring the one that engages the driver.

I'm not sure what I'll do yet. I've driven my current A45 in manual mode for 9 years though. The gearbox on it drove me insane in auto.

issue is stiil the weight of it/ioniq5 - whilst that earlier posted video showed it being driven/fun on the laguna seca corkscrew with it's simulated gears - on the badlandsroads
of Cambridgeshire you'd be braking to b****** on tight bends - down in first, versus a 2nd/3rd in a sports car, different experience.

I saw it mentioned but knew it would be trash so skipped it.

channel 5 is on the ignore list .. gadget show & fifth gear used to be worth ffwd'ing through, a driving show with people who can drive - who knew Plato/karun ...

After having diesel cars for years I am starting to think electronic maybe audi etron or Porsche Taycan it’s a big step and range vs charging speed is my biggest concern. Looks like a weekend of dealership tours to salivate over the cars they have to offer.

It’s bit like those houses people have retrofitted grey UPVC double glazing (and new builds!), in 20 years we’re going to look back and use the phrase ‘what were they thinking’.

Amen brother, the mrs wants grey sodding everything, to me its as faddy as the horrible brown plastic windows people fitted 20 years ago.

On the Hyundai topic, i like the fact that they have a go at design, the 6 looks a bit naff, the 5 is lovely looking imo. I find the Tesla range just horrible in every way. Skoda did 'skoda' with the Enyaq, boring but bloody functional, have to agree the base models look terrible, has to be a sportline or VRS.

BMW did well with the I4, decent chassis etc, and fairly good at the EV thing. For me, if I wasn't having an EV as a company car, I would have looked at the I4, Formentor, Ionic 5 or A6 Etron (if i had a decent chunk for a deposit).

Haha only had it a night. Yes it’s challenging but nice to see some colour, I liked the interior a lot, there’s a lot going on with idrive though!

That’s a decent spec car
The colour is a £2k option and the seats £3.2k, also available in black.

The dimensions are fine - the footprint is no larger than a 5 Touring.
Pre-2023 cars can’t be upgraded to iDrive 8.5 so miss out on the new OS features.

Yeah it’s a good spec that’s for sure, laser lights and the 4G augmented navigation. Rear steer too but not sure if that’s optional on M50?

It’s more of a soft red/copper.

SDK; When I said proportions i meant the volume of metal on the body, overhangs and the wheelbase relationship etc. Nothing to do with the vehicle dimensions…. Plus it has a hexagon steering wheel

Plot twist they've just emailed me saying the ID7 order has progressed lol. `

I got an email with 'my' reg number and vin yesterday along with the agreements. They've #£%£ed up the agreement, quite heavily in my favour. Charging the 3 upfront 36 month rate for a 1 up front 24 month agreement.
I've signed and returned it and will now keep my fingers crossed.
