EV general discussion

Some great deals on Salary Sac, no pension impact on ours, fully maintained inc insurance etc

Stand outs for me are the MG4 Xpower for £277 a month for 2 years and the ID7 Tourer for £330

The Cyberster just appeared for £600 :D

I had a quick go in the model y that had in as that is on a 0% deal at the moment so was tempting but it's just too big for me. they had a model x which looked like it would be brilliant to be a passenger but not drive.
I had a look at an Audi Q4 E-tron last week, didn't drive it though. My current car is a little big for normal driving so was looking for a smaller car. My car only gets the boot full on the odd occasion we go somewhere self catering such as a static caravan the rest of the time there's only me in the car or 2 our of the 3 kids. Very rare we have a car full so the roof bars are going to be for the odd time a year. The car i have been looking out for a BMW m340i which i was accepting that i would need roof bars occasionally for that too plus it'd be pushing the budget a little. Maybe a BMW I4/5 would be an option when i ahve more funds or they come down in price. Tesla seems a good deal in terms of price, warranty, worst case scenario i'll pay it off early and get something else. So although it'll have been the first electric car to be driven (drove y afterwards) it's the umpteenth car i've kicked tires / test driven trying to find something i fancy.

I do agree with the above, defo kick the tyres on other cars but Model 3 is hard to beat on value if the form factor suits your needs.

I also wouldn’t default to the long range model, the 60kwh RWD model (from December 2021) has excellent range for a car with a relatively ‘modest’ sized battery. It’s 200+ all year in the real world at legal motorway speeds.

I used to have a Model 3 60kwh (have a Model Y now), I’ve not used the roof bars but I’m sure you can get them elsewhere and there isn’t anything special about them. You just need to be careful installing them and that nothing is touching the glass or you can crack it when it’s loaded.

People with Teslas (of which I'm not one) say the regular range has the LFP which you charge to 100% day to day while the NMC in the long range is best kept at 80% making day to day range pretty similar, especilaly with the increased efficiency of the shorter range car (yeah come after me boys I mentioned efficiency again   ).

Ive been watching a few EV3 vids in the last few days, looks like a decent package, quite nice inside and out, kia have really come a long way in the last few years. Price point is decent at £36k, good to see more affordable offerings in the market.

It's also a bit of a silly point that makes me face palm every time I read it because you can charge the long range car to 100% when you need it, you can't charge the SR car to 120% if you need it.

Of course that is only really relevant if you actually need the longer range semi regularly otherwise just save the £10k (buying new) and get the SR car which has probably got more range than the vast majority of people need 360 days a year.

Yeah best thing to do with people with Teslas and speaking about them is only listen to 10% of them. Much better brain efficiency.

There’s a guy I work with who is an utter bore preaching about his model 3.

Had the same with a colleague stating his Model Y was much more efficient than my I-Pace and saves him on electricity costs. We are both the same pay scale and both on salary sacrifice. I reminded him my I-Pace was £80 per month cheaper to lease than his Model Y and asked how much electricity would that get him. :D

Efficiency does matter of course and the I-Pace is a joke in that regard. But I knew that when I test drove one and loved it far more than any other car I tested. Subjective wins out over objective more often than not.

I do love my I pace and don’t think about the efficiency much tbf. I spend a lot more of the time wishing my battery worked properly and wasn’t stuck at max 72% :D

Oh dear, I hope it’s being sorted under warranty?

I am the same, I love my I-Pace and even after 2.3 years I still enjoy driving it and it just still looks amazing.

What do people think of Jeremy Clarkson’s comments about EV’s in the last grand tour episode?

“Jeremy branded them as '****' and said that he could not enjoy them because he saw them as 'white goods.'”

Personally, I agree with him. They do a job, but a washing machine doesn’t put a smile on my face.

Millionaire who can buy what ever car he wants will never align with most people’s real thoughts. 95% of cars bought are white goods regardless of drivetrain.

I feel sorry for the people who quote it as a credible source. The hydrogen quote was a perfect example of this “most abundant element in the universe” l; not when the nearest amount is contained within the Sun!

Clarkson is a arse, a dinosaur stuck in the past. I only have a 2021 Nissan Leaf and while it's not the greatest EV it certainly does put a smile on my face. By the way, a washing machine has put a smile on many womens faces!!

Who cares what he thinks? Who cares what anyone thinks about a car, or anything for that matter, it is what you think that counts. Lets give people a metal wash tub, a wash board, and a mangle to do their washing, and after a couple of decades offer them a washer+dryer machine, see how exciting they they think one is then.

JC is entertaining but it's been a long time since he acted as an actual respectable car journalist. he is the TV personality equivalent of the daily express, being deliberately controversial to stay relevant imo

his knowledge of EVs was made apparent when he was claiming that the batteries in them would be fit for the bin after 5 years (can't remember exactly the quote but it was along those lines).

I had a test drive in the MG4 this morning, we got to a straight road where I was on my own, he told me to slow down to a virtual stop and then hit the pedal.
It seriously scared me and pushed me back in the seat (yes I know a lot of ICE drivers experience it).
Because of the Autohold function I was driving around in traffic and it was braking itself when I pulled my foot off the accelerator while also putting a bit of charge back in, I only used the brake pedal twice.
The test drive was astounding but I've never had an expensive ICE car so can't compare.

I'm just after a charger now if someone can suggest a cheap decent one fitted.

Didn’t think so many of you would be offended by Clarkson’s comments tbh :D Remember just because you’re offended doesn’t mean you’re right.

I just can’t imagine teenage boys / car enthusiasts dreaming / lusting over 10+ year old ev’s. (I doubt they would ever become icons or classics)

In my younger days I had posters on my bedroom wall of a Ferrari f40, Lamborghini Countach, McLaren F1, Ford GT 40 and girls:D
