Is there not an emergency release in the car?

In mine there is a small handle for the front seats and for the back there is a pull tag under the rubber mat in the door pocket. Pull either and the door manually opens.

As it’s a frameless door, if there is no power, you do risk breaking the window as it will not drop but as long are you are careful you can get it open without damage.

Edit: have a model Y not a Kia…

We googled it and no , Kia's instructions are funny "lower the electric window" . no power lol

As said above pretty bad design flaw

Tried the app on 2 phones couldn't connect to the car in a good spot signal . Wife did mention the dash and all lights had a fit before it went dead , AA seem to think its either the 12v or sensor connected to the battery . When AA removed the senor on the battery it started to charge fully , senor plugged back in only a trickle charge . Its at Kia anyway and its a business lease so their problem for now
 
Skoda Elroq has been unveiled , looks pretty smart, with the MEB platform pretty mature now, it could be a decent option at the 35k price point.

Launch is due in March 26.

A lot of people complained Tesla were putting safety at risk on the model 3 because there isn’t an emergency release on the rear doors of the old Model 3, that’s actually a shocker of there is no way to get out the car if there is no 12V power.

There is, you just have to climb into the boot.

EDIT: There's a latch on the rear of the boot lid that you insert the metal part of the key into and slide it along. Knackered if you have a full boot though.

Or you have a disability, in a crash, have car seats in the back etc etc.

It doesn’t seem like a particularly good solution, IMO of course.

Ah yes. That’s fine then. When in crash find out later you shouldn’t have put anything in the boot.

Pro EV glasses need a wash !

Yeah stupid, but it's not just the EV6 with this issue, loads of new vehicles have the same problem when you get a 12v flat combined with a deadlock, ironically, only PHEV's and BEV's can use the previously mentioned heating/climate to charge the dead 12v so if you are in a full ICE/HEV then you are screwed.
 
Isn't there a requirement for internal boot release on all cars in the USA anyway? That's probably the only reason there is any 'solution' for your KIA crapping out and holding you hostage.

I know I'm an old fart but what exactly is the issue with a good old fashioned mechanical latch on the doors?

Yeah, that is the reason they have the release one the boot, there was a Cadillac model in the US where it would do this, even though it was supposed to have a mechanical release it would still fail to open after the double pull due to the 'alarm/immobiliser' you can turn this off in the in car menus on the EV6 which means it can't happen but it is turned on by default.

FMVSS requirement is only for 4 door sedans with closed fixed metal contained trunks/boots, if the seats fold down as per most 5 doors it’s not needed.

It’s part of anti trampment. The XJ release glowed in the dark. Would you believe if frunks get to a sufficient size they also need an internal release.

Basically the EV6 is crap.

The wifes boot is usually full with stock samples and fair bit of weight to move even if you could get out that, I couldn't due my hip problems if my life depended on it probably could
 
We need a second car for the daily commute of around a 60 mile all round. We want it to be electric and the main car is a Model Y.

We are looking at a 23 plate MX30 with 1.5k miles in the Makoto spec for £16k. Thoughts? It seems well spec’ed, good quality and better reliability than the Mokka E.

I'd say go with a 22-plate if you are looking at an MX-30 you can get them for a smidge over £12k with under 10k on them. Seems like you are wasting £4k otherwise.
