EV general discussion

lordrobs agreed, he looks out the window which is only the behaviour I want to assure, sure parents would like that too, corsa-e owner I discussed with said they used that - so you wouldn't knowingly buy a charger/car combination that precluded it with poor mobile coverage ... akin to having car play in an older ice say, ability to pre-condition en route to minimize stopping time also 'useful'.
I'm not sure what changed to solve my erratic app connectivity as there were too many factors to pinpoint the exact one - change of phone, connecting the car to my home wi-fi and a software update(s) to name just three.

Whatever the case if the car is locked and plugged in it now seems to connect every time in the app which is why I use the pre-conditioning on an ad-hoc basis. The cost I reference kind of tongue in cheek (although it is a factor) but the added flexibility in being able to leave earlier or later is the key benefit of not pre-scheduling in the car, which required no coverage whatsoever.

Honestly though, the heat up time is so minimal that if I couldn't do it I wouldn't be that worried. The instant warm air being by far the bigger factor than any pre-conditioning ability.

Well thats definitely annoying as I placed my order via the SS website on Monday 10th Feb. Paperwork was done on the 12th and the order placed for the car the afternoon of the 12th. So not sure how you can order after me and get the car!
I wonder if its the spec I ordered? I was very specific but who knows...

Possibly. I didn't order the Pilot pack. Everything else was standard (colour, Plus pack, etc)
Ahh so without the Pilot Pack there were none in stock when i placed my order with just the basic spec. Even the ones on their site have a mix of other options like body coloured moldings or other interiors.

My complaining to them must have worked. The SS broker has just called me to say that Polestar have magically found me a car. Must have fallen down the back of the sofa or something!

My older EV can no longer connect with the App. I just set the departure on the car. I only really use preheating the cabin it when it was freezing, like frozen door handles cold. It's nice to get into a warm car anyway.

It does heat up quick from cold anyway so mostly don't bother. Rarely bothered by any loss in range due to heating, due to not going far. So I whack the heating right up. Usually turning it down after 5 mins.

So you should get an invite from Polestar to create an account if you don't have one. Thats how I knew my order had been placed

This is the problem with excessive preheat too. Mine pulls 6kW when heating up below zero - Battery heater on top. As you say fast enough not to really care anyway but people seem to enjoy the smugness of it. (Maybe not realising the energy isn’t free )

Who on earth would think it was free…?

Not entirely sure why it's smug to want to be warm. That makes no sense.

Look at so so all smug wearing a coat in freezing temps. ???

It’s almost free on our EV tariff.

People on the EV Facebook always talk about how smug they feel on a cold morning when they come out and see their neighbours de icing their cars.

Why the chip on your shoulder ?

You guys do make me laugh. It’s cute the passion you have for being incredibly anal. Ok preheat that car plugged in and it’s pulling off the grid at 30p. Kind of negates all the octopus go savings really ?

you can't heat cabin slow - avoiding any PTV heater and exploiting heat-pump to reduce Watts (or if you just don't whack the heat up too high, maybe it does that)
usually requires a longer time for sufficient warmth to reach side windows anyway.
