EV general discussion

weather is erratic at the moment in Cambs - some mornings you'd need to melt the frost and have to pre-heat sufficiently, others you don't ?
I use wifi calling inside the house but outside the mobile reception is erratic and can just be cut-off, a first world/UK problem;
as the pope would say, the devil is in the detail
Well set preheating anyway on a timer and it’s not the end of the world if it wasn’t frosty right? Instant heat anyway so when you sit in the car it doesn’t take that long to melt either.

Polestar 4 LRDM with Plus and Pilot packs due to be delivered early March. Gives me time to get my plate off the iPace, clean it and get it ready to be collected.

It'll look not dissimilar to the i-Pace, colour is almost the same being Magnesium against Yulong white

I'm having some small issues with public DC chargers, any tips welcome.

I have an Octopus Electroverse account and card. I want to charge at an Osprey charger, that has CSS and Chademo cables. I touch the card to the RFID reader and the small screen say "Select charger". Touching all the thigs around that look like buttons doesn't do anything. How do I select a charger?

I decide to use the app. There are 4 individual chargers at this location, all shown in the app. But I can't figure out how to find which of the chargers in the app corresponds to the physical charger I parked in front of.

Tried the OVO Charge app and it's the same.
I would normally plug the car in, swipe the card and it should start charging.

Kempower units (slim posts with 2 plugs) have a touch screen only, their standalone units are much larger and either have a touch screen and/or buttons.

I ordered one (LRDM) via my employers SS scheme. Despite getting the order in pretty quick and it still being up on their site after I had all the paperwork signed. Polestar turned around a week later and said there were no cars to fulfill my order. Go to the Polestar website, cars available for delivery March

Exactly, there is no idling equivalent or warming up required.

I've stopped using scheduled pre-conditioning on my car now as it takes juice from the grid, which is 24p/kWh by the time I leave for work and... well... I'm tight :p Not sure if that is the norm with a proper EV or if it is PHEV specific due to the tiny battery.

Instead I look out the window as I'm making my coffee, if it's frosty I'll activate the climate remotely and it's melted by the time I've downed my drink and put my shoes on.

Thats frustrating, I've got my number plate and VIN just waiting on the confirmed delivery date now, was all booked through my SS scheme at work.

My Polestar will heat the cabin from the battery, but will only precondition the battery if it’s plugged into the wall and is taking power - it won’t use the battery to warm the battery unless you’re out driving.

Due to the juice this takes having a noticeable effect on the range for of my commute, I just override the charger when I get up as in reality it’s just a few pennies to do and keeps the battery full till I leave the house, rather than watch the charge disappear at an alarming rate in the first 5 miles of my commute as it tries to keep both me and the battery warm whilst going up some big hills!

Exactly mine turns on heating when you unlock too so that helps warm it up. People think ultimate use of tech is needed just cause it’s there but without being able to use remote heating they wipe the benefit completely (Jpaul)

When did you order yours? Turns out Polestar told my SS provider they had plenty of cars and then over-sold them. Guess I was one of the unlucky ones to get dropped!

lordrobs agreed, he looks out the window which is only the behaviour I want to assure, sure parents would like that too, corsa-e owner I discussed with said they used that - so you wouldn't knowingly buy a charger/car combination that precluded it with poor mobile coverage ... akin to having car play in an older ice say, ability to pre-condition en route to minimize stopping time also 'useful'.

...

yes the i-pace like rear on the Polestar 5 is nice, some audi coupe genes there too.

These are definitely mostly words, I’m certain of it.

It’s a 4 not a 5, the 5 is a traditional sport saloon more like a A7.

How can you even mess that up when there’s a post with the car pictured and named. Lunatic bot poster.

Car was ordered start of last week with the SS Scheme, order placed on Polestar this week.
Well thats definitely annoying as I placed my order via the SS website on Monday 10th Feb. Paperwork was done on the 12th and the order placed for the car the afternoon of the 12th. So not sure how you can order after me and get the car!

Yes I look out window and unlock car and guess what. The magic radio waves from my fob unlock the car and also turns on heating

Or just turn it on when I get up with the 4G you are missing. But still doesn’t save massive amounts of time as the EV heater kicks in straight away where as my ice needs to warm up. (Not that I drive it when it’s icy anyway ).

Also why would you need an app to precondition a battery whilst driving the car?

Preconditioning is rarely needed in this country anyway. You just use a load of energy so you need to charge more to get the % you need, even if the kW is slightly higher. A battery after an hour of driving will be warm anyway thanks to having 20kW pulled out of it constantly on a motorway
