EV general discussion

Not at all, but it feels like you have a hard time accepting that someone might genuinely prefer an EV for their own reasons. Each to their own.
I have an EV. What are you talking about ? They are great. Just like an air frier. Sure they are great vs some 3cy engine but most people get them for cost and how much they can save

If you just want a tool, to get you from A to B with reasonable comfort etc. Yes, ok EV could be ideal. If you drive, often just for the sheer enjoyment of it, ICE is better.
For me everything is a compromise and it’s about ticking the most boxes that I can. I’ve got a family now and I commute a few times a week into the city. I need something that’ll fit the family, get me to and from work, and give me a few other things that I enjoy (good sound system, decent turn of speed, cheap running costs) so an EV makes the most sense for me.

Do I wish I also had a GR Yaris to hoon around the south wales B roads in? Absolutely. But that doesn’t tick the most boxes and I don’t have the luxury of being able to justify having both.

Yes but that’s all based on your ownership experience. If - for example - you’ve only driven a 1.0litre eco boost Fiesta (nowt wrong with that), then yes I would expect most EVs to be nicer to drive.

You didn’t state your previous comment was based on your personal experience, you simply said EVs were nicer to drive. Period.

I didn’t say, period, and by describing it as ‘nicer’ it is by definition my own opinion - you can’t measure nice. In the same way that you think if you only drive for pleasure it HAS to be ICE, which is just your opinion.
We can do that if you want ? Is danger mouse gonna let you ?

God no, I’d always lose.

When someone said that their EV felt nicer to drive than any ICE car they’ve ever owned, you suggested they try a V8 and you’ve harped on about how EVs are all appliances. I’ve owned a C63 and besides the noise it made and the way it went around a track I prefer the Model Y in every other measurable way.

I have an EV. It’s a choice for people who want a car on the cheap which is great. It’s cheap motoring.

I’m considering a EV for our fleet. The main advantage for me would be not having to wait for it to warm up before putting my foot down and not having to travel out further to get the 99RON fuel, which our 370BHP SUV prefers. The SUV is the wife’s really, and I want to give EV a go.

And having driven the EV’s in the past, the silence, instant torque and tech is cool. I love the pops and bangs of the SUV, but time and place etc.

And by EV, I mean Model S, Taycan, Ioniq 5N etc. But I like Gibbos Honda E.

I said I probably wouldn’t bother and now my mileage has fallen, I stand by that - I don’t save enough money on that mileage to warrant an EV and the inconveniences that come with it - lower range (at the time), purchasing a charger @~1k and the general hassle re time taken to charge. And that’s before the enjoyment factor which is missing over ICE. I can run whatever ICE car I want, with whatever size engine I want and there’s little to no penalty.

How can it be more inconvenient if you do 250-350 miles a month, that is like 2 full charges? If you had/have a Polestar 2 you didn't have a charger installed?

Seems like you are also using opinion as fact, I find ICE atrocious in comparison to BEV for pleasure, I find being in a relaxing quiet environment way better, and and I personally still find it hilarious people have been conditioned to find noise pollution as a benefit. If you enjoy it more, sure fine, but that is opinion and that is all.

Make sure you get the correct charger installed if you are getting a performance EV as you'll need the best quality electrons in it, the cheap ones don't filter out the 'less negative' ones. :p :D

Just get one of those fuel magnets things - it’ll straighten out the electrons perfectly for the extre 20bhp!

getting in to a fully warmed and defrosted car, getting into a cooled car, not being concerned about driving short distances or swapping the cars in my driveway over
yes can't dispute those conveniences of ev ownership - I usually take the bicycle for short distances (the gym) and the lack of mechanical empathy driving the ICE a short distance(e:&mpg), or driveway swapping, is always troubling..

if you just look at the feelings behind the wheel, drivetrain noise and engine noise (except when you stir the box), or linear power delivery have never been an issue in the 3series/6 had for many years,
I wouldn't mind reduced cabin noise on the motorway but that's largely down to car aerodynamics/reduced wind noise, where ice / ev can be on parity.
In an urban environment some ICE's are a bit more noise polluting (lorry's & commercial vehicles obviously), I cycle a lot and on A roads it is the tyre roar/aerodynamic noise that predominates on both ice and bev as they approach

Hell yeah. I was going to get a windmill to help charge any potential EV, but trump slated them so I’m going to add solar panels, to the car and my house because everyone knows premium electric comes from space.

I don’t have a charger, we were moving house so I wasn’t going to buy one, only to leave it behind. The granny charging was by choice, but the hassle I refer to is when driving distance. It didn’t happen often as we would choose our ICE vehicle for such things due to less stops and more convenience.

Not using my opinion as fact, it is all my opinion, my experience, my use cases and my choices. I do however believe the more fun part is the general consensus held by those that drive for pleasure, by that’s by-the-by.

I’m not anti EV and I quite like my Polestar, but it’s missing some engagement and for now that is my preference. Currently I’m running my EV alongside its ICE replacement. I could keep and run both, but that’s excessive considering my mileage. I tried other EV options (Model Y, E-tron GT) but it’s still ICE for me, for now.

How is jpaul still so active with such little experience of an EV here.

Regarding magnets, they won’t help filter the negative posts from either “side” of the proverbial fence so brace yourself for that.

But here’s the real killer question, do you own your EV?

Nah, stole it a couple of years ago. Makes them so much cheaper!

Yes I do - I was sort of forced into it when wrote off my E Class by being a ******* one night and happened to be going on holiday the next day where I was renting a Polestar for the week. Got back, needed to by a car so just took the plunge. I hadn’t been planning on switching to EV at that point but figured I could make it work. At the time I was living in work supplied accommodation with free electric with helped!

ID 7 has completely died today while my other half is out and about.

All displays off, but will go into gear. Obviously can’t drive without a speedometer

Getting out the car/locking/seatbelt doesn’t work.
