EV general discussion

No but these kind of vehicles are aimed at a more multi-purpose lifestyle vehicle which are more practical to live out of for a day than a car, the Buzz is a bit more practical compared to some of the options if dealing with narrow streets and/or back lanes, etc. but IMO a little more compromised when it comes to versatile use of the space where even a few CMs can be a big deal.
Or literally as van. The buzz is also a van

Yeah but it could be good for camping where you sleep in the tent, or want space for the dogs, or the kids bikes inside the car, or you like festivals and want a trolley in the boot etc etc.

This is exactly why we want one (or similar), big dog currently takes up all the boot space, so camping stuff goes on the roof - which is a real pain as we have massive bell.... tent. The Niro is /just/ big enough, but takes a lot of "Tetris" to make everything fit (and it's definitely not fun to pack a roof bag when it's peeing down with rain!)

Really liking it so far to be honest, more comfortable ride than the Ibiza it's replaced although that might be purely down to the smaller wheels and more rubber.

The use of piano black finish on bits you touch is slowly driving me mad but I'm going to put a layer of wrap over the gear selector which is the main bit I'm noticing and the LKA while not as suicidal as it sounds like it may have been in earlier versions is still pretty crap and tries to point me into the other lane a little too often.

Other than that everything feels good, drive is nice and it's just generally almost relaxing wafting along on electric. Once I get the home charger sorted so that headaches gone I'll be very happy with the change.

Yeh I agree about the LKA. However mines updated too, and I don't think it's any worse than any other modern cars I've driven. It's just annoying, and I think actually more dangerous and distracting for a lot of journeys. My commute is mostly b roads and lanes which involve straddling the middle a fair bit so it's bleeping and twitching the wheel often. It's nothing but an irritating distraction.

The problem generally, is more to do with NCAPs ferocious stubbornness to make it mandatory and have it reset every time the car turns on. They need to ditch that idea ASAP in my opinion.

I've just taken to making it part of my starting routine now. I have to turn the drive mode to custom and put pedal force to sport (because it never saves that....:/). Then it's only three more taps on the screen to disable the LKA features. I'm doing it automatically now so it's no too much trouble.

Assuming you mean in terms of fingerprints and smudges - I'm not entirely sure what product but the dealer put something, I think a Scotchgard product, on a couple of my vehicles which does prevent it for like 6 months or so but does need redoing after a few months. (Personally I just give it a once over every now and again with Autoglym vinyl and rubber care if it starts getting bad).
Yeah fingerprints and micro scratches. Like I said it's only really annoying on the gear selector pedestal which I'll just cover. The rest is fine at I either don't touch it or it's not in my eyeline.

It makes me laugh that the times I actually purposely drive over lines like going around some temp lights on my commute it does absolutely nothing but then out of no where it starts going off on one. I'll probably start doing the same. One thing I'm liking more every time I see it is the asbo orange, nice change from my plain white car.

Loads of cheap options to replace them, even more on AE.

AliExpress is exactly where I've ordered the pre cut wrap from, along with some other "just driven it through Halfords" bits:D

We turn ours off.

Ours is a two button press on our MG4, press the car icon on the right of the screen and no matter if I'm in ECO, Normal or Sport the correct screen comes up with the LKA

I bought the red trim door bin/cup holder/storage bits linings for under £6 from Ali express. They actually look ok as they kind of semi match the red/orange trim on the Xpower seats and door cards.

Doesn't it get you to confirm to disable it though after turning it off? It does on mine.

Sorry yes but what you wrote seems to be a bit more "I have to turn the drive mode to custom and put pedal force to sport".
Mine can be in any mode.

Ah sorry, I see what you mean. That's just a separate thing I do as I think the car feels so much better with the brakes and steering set to sport (brakes especially feel too spongy on any other setting). I would just put it in sport, but I have found running it in sport the whole time does use more juice as both motors are activated at all times. So I have to put it in custom with normal engine mode and sport steering and brakes.

Oddly, it saves the steering setting for the custom profile, but not the brake setting. I have no idea why.

I'd get one with a tow bar and a tow box otherwise the range will be atrocious. Tow bar mounted bike has barely damaged our efficiency but a mate with an EV9 with bikes on the roof says it took something like 20-30% off his range (which on a Buzz is a double whammy lol)

My first thought when I read this was that you were suggesting towing round a second battery pack… :D

I'm tempted by a second hand niro, I can buy it as a business purchase so I can depreciate it vs corp tax. 2021-2 older style 4+ are coming down to around 15-17k with 3 years and 30k miles give or take (as a really rough average). On the other hand the 3s and 4s of the newer model which are around 1-2 years and 10-20k miles seem to be down to around 20-22k. I'm not sure how much to value the cash lump vs the couple of extra years worth of warranty (at 10-15k miles per year so no change there) vs the 5k and face-lift but warranty lasting at least another year or two. I had a 2024 Niro 3 in the my last job that was pretty nice. We'll be keeping the xc70 until that dies for longer/bigger trips.
Which one would be the better value? And is there anything i haven't thought of? Any other cars in that price bracket that have similar features? I've had not great feedback on the id3 so not keen on that but otherwise I've not looked too much at other vehicles.

The newer one is generally a bit nicer to drive, and has one-pedal-drive, also depending which trim level you go for, you get V2L.

Other than that, there's not much in it other than cosmetics (and as you've mentioned, the warranty); the battery and drive-train is the same, so the range/power/charge speed is identical.

£5k pays for a lot of out-of-warranty repairs!

As far as I'm aware, the Kona is the same car underneath, just in a slightly smaller package (and obviously with a Hyundai badge)
