EV general discussion

@MrRockliffe - my 2021 Hyundai Kona took about a year to "loosen up" and in that time went from 3.5m/kWh to 4.3m/kWh - I wonder if its a Hyundai/Kia "thing" ?

That’s really interesting. It could well be

The other thing I noticed is that it’s running really old firmware for the OS - a 2023 version.

So it wouldn’t be too far fetched to think the dealership didn’t update anything on the car either.

I am gonna say you got over this? :D

I’ve tried SO hard to have anything other than an i4.

I literally had it excluded from my search results on AT.

But when I put in my “requirements” it’s the only thing left.

VAG is the only real alternative and I won’t be touching one with a barge pole for years.

I’ll just have to get used to forward bay parking everywhere and keep a top up of paper bags in the car.

Who said I’m continuing to put miles on it?
Oh, sorry. That was my assumption as I'd have thoughts 4 days probably wasn't enough to give a full analysis of ride quality over different roads, efficiency and the performance of the headlights (considering it's only properly dark for about 6 hours a day at the moment).

How many miles have you done in it out of interest?

(blah blah blah Musk etc I know)

Outside of the issues with Musk:

No CarPlay (and I’m not paying a subscription on a car just to listen to my existing subscription)

No HUD or driver display

Doesn’t have a proper rain sensor for wipers

No gear selector

But I wouldn’t own one either way because I have no desire to fund a facist.

Nothing against those that are indifferent but I wouldn’t feel right complaining about mentalists like Musk running the world, only to then go and help fund them.

About 130 which was 2x work trips before I rejected it

The roads around here are shocking, and I’m really tuned into my cars, so I can pick up on the details fairly quickly

It’s an immediate and obvious improvement over the ID. If you haven’t driven one you won’t have experienced how truly poor it is. So jittery all the time.

Hyundai feels like a much more sophisticated setup, very Porsche like actually.

As always, your money your choice/problem, but to answer your concerns

No carplay is not an issue as you can hotspot and have access to Spotify/Amazon music/YT music etc
No HUD is easily sorted with a £120 mod, though I can see why some wouldn't want to spend the extra on a £60k car already
Rain sensors are a valid complaint, mine does phantom wipes on a dry windscreen when I tried it (though I must say, for me, it isn't a big issue since I never use auto-wipers, even on my previous 440i)
There's no stalks, the physical buttons are on the dome lights on the roof of the car (near the hazard lights). Again, easily sorted with a mod, and again I can see why some wouldn't want to spend the extra on a £60k car already

Test drove the Toyota bz4x Touring at the weekend and was a nice car, but the centre console top is high up and annoyingly the corner of it presses into my knee, suprised has such a sharp corner to it and not badded, also the other weird thing with it, the heater rear seat buttons are on the back of the centre console god knows how someone sitting in the back seats is meant to push it, I am 6tf2 and sat in the back and had several inches of room in front of my knees.

Other than that liked the car, annoyingly not helped narrow my list down past three, so still more umming and ahhing

This feels like a lot of workarounds for a car, which is my issue.

I’m not into the modding side of stuff on a daily, it just isn’t worth it for me. Things go wrong/break and it becomes frustrating

For me they’ve made design choices which just don’t work for me

I never said it was uncomfortable and cramped.

I said I sit too high.

I would never get used to sitting too high but it’s not an uncomfortable car for me.

I’m sorry if I read too much in to your list. But to be fair you did post that your head is touching the headliner all the time and it is unable to adjust the seat low enough to see the HUD correctly.

That would be the definition of cramped to me, and I suspect to most others who read your post.

For what it’s worth, I am fully with you on refusing to support a fascist.

Basically an IPACE remains the best car that’s an EV. The end.
it's certainly an excellent car..... as an electric vehicle it is a bit dated now... but it's moot as Jaguar chose to stop selling them so you can't buy a new MY26 one even if you wanted to :(

I would love to see what a proper face lifted one would have been like but now they are going for the Bentley level market i guess we will never know.

Yeah it’s gone through an entire lifecycle whilst some people are still deciding to get an EV. The car isn’t the dated thing.

Really though I’d prefer a Taycan. Just getting the landing net out

It’s just a height thing, but it doesn’t “feel” claustrophobic at all as it’s otherwise spacious

I think it’s probably due to being designed in Asia where their average height is lower ?

But very much a me issue, and gf doesn’t have that problem at all. She still raises the seat when she gets into it :P

Not the RR EV? :D

- Seating position is too high. I’m not super tall at 6 foot 1 but I cannot get the HUD to display clearly even on the lowest height. If I bend down a little it makes it super clear. My head is also touching the headliner all the time. This is with the seat at its lowest.

Bet you wish you'd realised this on the test drive and saved yourself all this hassle?

6'1 isn't even THAT tall, wonder what the Dutch make of the car lol

Too big. Just getting into them annoys be and I’m not short. The RR sport electric will be cool though, I’m more excited about next Thursday…

I would deal with it as I’d just turn off the HUD on my profile

But yeah this is why a 5 min test drive isn’t quite enough. Probably won’t bother switching away from BMW again as I know the seating position works well for me and the gf, as it’ll be similar to the G20 I had before.

Wife has just put a deposit down on a new Mini JCW :D Should be a fun little upgrade from her existing Mini L3 Electric and hopefully collect at the end of the week. Much better range is the main reason for changing and she loved her JCW she had back in 2020.

Did she look at the Alpine A290 or is that too boy racer looking for her?
