EV general discussion

It's already been debunked as a light weight shell (think NASCAR) over a frame with some meaty air compressors inside.

Not taking a way from the fact that if we start here, anything is possible, but this isn't coming to a street near you anytime soon

Most probably will be a slimmed down version but shouldn't take away what they have achieved, but who has "debunked" it though? You sure it's not the rapid self-reinforcing spread of likes and comments where one person posted something and others copied, so the resulting volume creates a feedback loop that makes the claim feel widely accepted and therefore factual

The fact there were 3 different cars is shown in photographs. You honeslty think the car with the cold gas thrusters that performed the stunts was a full weight car?
Yes there is 3 versions of the car. The physics checks out. Car is 1,700kg, thrusters give it 80kN of vertical thrust. That's nearly 5:1 thrust to weight ratio. For comparison the previous roadster was 1,200kg, so it's quite a bit heavier.

Yeah, the guy is deeply autistic and I hate his over promising, under delivering antics, but that was a 'show'..

Ultimately pointless, just 'fluff and filler' as it's not going to be remotely anything able to be put in to practice..

Imagine pulling up behind one of those at the traffic lights and it decides to do a full send 0-60.. your windscreen would be instantly blown through the car and bits of your head splattered all over the rear window..

Still, as a tech demo.. pretty awesome !

You mean a car driving upside down on a hotwheels ramp and kick flipping off of it was a show? Colour me shocked.

I would think the pressure vessel inside that Tesla has a limited number of cycles before requiring replacement. When that tank ruptures it'll be like the OceanGate Titan in reverse. BOOOOM!!!! Those within a 100 metres will be picking carbon fibre out of their teeth and eyeballs for weeks.

Take it for what it's worth - a demonstration in what's possible to entertain, excite and engage on an engineering level.

I am no fan of Musk but he sure does know how to put on a show.

I get where people like their Tesla’s and would never judge another individual for buying one. But I just see Musk as someone who it goes beyond a general dislike of a typical CEO out purely for profit. This guy’s political views and stunts with Starlink in Ukraine has cost lives.

So for me personally owning a new (less so used) Tesla is saying “I personally condone these actions”. This is me setting personal standards, not judging others.

I would agree if it weren't for the fact they were taking deposits for their smoke and mirrors vaporware vehicle that will never land with retail customers.

Aside from that fact you are absolutely right. As a tech demo concept to get the media making noises it was a hit.

You think even the base version won't appear?
The jet version is invite only, so no-one has paid deposit for that without having had personal talks with Tesla and will understands it's just a PR piece.

They didn't deliver on the 2017 Roadster which was a 'normal' proposition of a vehicle. Even the base version of Roadster 0.2 has fans capable of sucking the thing to an inverted surface and the rear blasters to ensure you get concussion at the traffic lights GP so... No, not a chance! :p

That McMurtry I posted earlier takes 60kW to run the fan system alone and that is providing way less negative pressure (half?) than the Roaster is meant to be generating. Sure, they could be generating it more efficiently but the power consumption has to be even higher before you even start driving the wheels.

Well they call it autopilot too…

Come on guys. It’s compressed air like I suggested that’s all. Doesn’t need try linking to cold fusion. I think he knows it’s a marketing term. No need to tell him.
