20K gap between an xc40 and an id3 - expansive budget ?

regen paddle : In town presumably use is periodic, since auto braking is optimising deceleration to catch car in front.
plus as ICDP said you are not wasting regen energy if you do use the familiar brake pedal, covering the brake pedal, as you do in town, gives more safety margin too
 
Where range is concerned, surely the Kona offers best value for money. I've no idea how they've done it. The real world range is pretty damn impressive.

Basically budget not a massive constraint if it's the right car. Only one that felt like it might not be worth the outlay was the XC40 as it was £60k for a spec that matched the basic Tesla for features (360 cameras, pano roof, etc.), although I'm sure cheaper versions will come like the Polestar 2.

No idea either but the efficiency seems crazy good.

Test drive tomorrow. I think it's down to the Kona vs the ID3 at this point but I may also fail in my mission completely and my wife may refuse to give up the Zoe :D

:D it's not particularly big but the one we test drove had white leather and I think it was really in her peripheral vision and making it feel really wide but now her mind is set even though I said we could get it in the black interior.

If we go ID3/Kona going to try and keep it under £35k to make it a lot cheaper.

So the ID3 Family 58 kWh Pro Performance or the Kona 64 kWh Premium


Looked at the 2008 but I don't think it has the range. Nice interior though, I do think Peugeot are smashing it in terms of design

The Kona and the Niro use different battery chemistries iirc, one uses NMC622 and the other NMC811, i think the Niro the former and the Kona the latter which could explain the different in efficiency between them despite sharing a lot of components and being very similar.
 
The answer is probably simpler, the Nero is a bigger car so it will need more energy to move it (more drag). Hence slightly less range all else being pretty similar or the same.
 
I think people do tend to overlook just how small the Kona is in terms of footprint, frontal area and tyre size that all contribute to the lower roadload that’s part of the range equation, it’s not purely down to driveline efficiency.

Drove the Kona.. update to the feedback

XC40 Recharge she loved it (I did too) but it's a ridiculous price
Tesla M3 LR felt too big when she drove it and hated it instantly :(
Q4 etron after the Tesla she sat in it and went 'nah' too big so we didn't even test drive lol
ID3 might be onto a winner here - but the range is on the edge of being sufficient for the only car in the family but it does have fast charging. She enjoyed driving it after we put all the settings in comfort/eco
Kona electric felt very Zoe like, nothing revolutionary just a car that happens to be electric. Liked the fact there were a lot more buttons than the ID3 and less reliant on touch interfaces

So seems like it's down to ID3 v Kona

ID3
  • Bigger inside than the Kona, and bigger boot too
  • Looks more modern, slightly 'cooler'?
  • Family spec has pano roof (but equally, steel wheels as standard lol) and matrix LED lights
  • Wireless Carplay (but potentially more buggy infotainment although I hope they have sorted this)
  • Big discounts available if purchasing
Kona
  • Much better real world range
  • Regen strength paddles - 4 stage including off vs 2 option D/B mode on the ID3
  • Smaller boot but can take a roofbox for holidays/weekends away
  • Gear selector more intuitive
  • Some very nice lease deals available

is the polestar2 single motor yet on the delivery horizon ... supposed to be £42K, the hatch aspect, in lieue of an ev estates, and saloon profile are nice.
I thought ID3 audio quality, w/o rear speakers, and, another Bose franchise (was it?) are 'suspect'

Really hard to test drive and reluctant to commit without one, especially as the size issue is important

The 2022 model gets a slightly better range due to using different tyres. Should be good for 300 miles if you keep it under 70.

why do you end up losing more ?, your insurance has got to put right the damage irrespective .. if anything I thought the 50% point to potentially exit the pcp arrives sooner,
if the ev market values are doing well ... or, you want a change.
You have to decide if you want GAP insurance too.

They only settle the balance due on the lease, so if you pay a bigger upfront payment then you lose that, hence the need for GAP to cover the difference. If you do a 1+23 vs a 9+23, you lose the 8 difference.

I thought about this, and want you really want to know is what value is the car, based on its real-world capability? Et voila - £/mile range for the WhatCar review, based on MSRP of most basic version at that spec:
