For the range? There are loads of real world tests. I’ve just not seen one with the BMW going over 200 miles yet (especially on the motorway). I would absolutely love it if they did as that would immediately go on my shortlist.

Yes, that - you want something that, fully laden with family feels like when you are alone, without draining the fuel tank,
and ... car enthousiasts put more priority on handling don't they/we? - which presents the dilema/compromise of battery weight if you select an ev.

The only i4 M50 range tests I have seen are on the much wider tyres and it gets about 198 motorway miles in winter. The Tesla with thinner tyres got 243 miles on the same test (218 miles with preheating for supercharging). You can choose 18" or 19" alloys on the i4 to get an extra 30-40 miles of range putting the i4 M50 within touching distance of an M3P for real world range.
Obvioulsy you can go down the wheel sizes on the Tesla but plenty of contemprary (like for like) EVs are within 15% efficiency and range of Tesla. So I don't agree that nobody has got close to Tesla after all this time. Maybe the other EV makers just need to copy Tesla and use bricks for suspension, will that help efficiency?
I noticed that as well. They put the grippier and wider tyres on, they come with the 20” wheels, to do the many drag races we have seen with the Model 3P. I would be really curious to see what the range is with the 19”. In other cars it has made about 20-30 miles difference. Me too and I hope there are more. I need to look a bit more closely at this i4 M50.

I really quite like the i4 - but by the time you add options to it, it makes the Teslas feel like a bit of a bargain.

Not compared spec exactly but looks like an M50 would be around £68k(with a few options) and the Tesla M3P £60K. Add any of the automated stuff to the Tesla the gap soon closes.

Basing it on a Model 3 Long Range. Can then just add acceleration boost for £1500 and you're a lot of the way there. Neither i4 option really compares, but then I guess I'm maybe wanting something inbetween the two i4 options that doesn't exist yet.
Important bits I'd want are lumbar support, electric memory seats, upgraded sound system, surround cameras with dashcam functionality, radar cruise control/lane keep assist and a pano roof. You get all that with the Tesla without needing to pay for anything over the included autopilot.
I'd much sooner take the BMW with iDrive 8 over the Tesla's infotainment any day of the week, as well as the more practical hatch boot. It's just not cost effective for me personally, which is a shame.
Also the price of the M50 includes any of the metallic exterior colours and leather colour choices.
Once you add a colour and white interior options to the Tesla that adds up to £3.2k to the price.
My Kona is only 150kW (~200bhp) but feels fantastically fast below 50 - 395Nm of instant torque definitely helps (except when it's not perfectly bone dry and the chassis is built for 70/30 front-engine weight, but is now closer to 55/45 with bags more power and therefore just spins the wheels

Colour. All cars cost extra for colours but I'll bite.. and say that's a fair argument but who in their right mind adds white leather as a deal breaker?

Its the only interior choice change is probably the point? And the M50 has a choice of 6 colours at £0.
In other news, more charging being put in place in obviously sensible places. I fully predict almost a race to install chargers faster than the next person/company to attract users/shoppers, just like the supermarkets did with petrol stations.

Is the cost of colours declining, so shouldn't be a premium, as they can be done with just 2 layers in a modern paint shop(base & clear) - aren't tesla updating their machines.
I forget which video I saw, maybe e-tron fastback production, but the automatic paint spraying was swapping colours on the production line seemlessly.

Not true. On the top level trim on the Mini Electric all colours are free. Where as on the base most are extra. Mid level some are free.Colour. All cars cost extra for colours but I'll bite.. and say that's a fair argument but who in their right mind adds white leather as a deal breaker?
