i love that colour...... almost considered buying a kona that was a similar colour. The Skoda...... I dont like the front grill (subjective, am not knocking it) on them but other than that a tidy looking car.

Skoda have come a long way since the skip jokes when i was at school ;) (i wonder if there are many Rapides still on the road?)

It's clear we need to move away from fossil fuels. EVs are a very good stepping stone to that. I don't know enough about the recycling or reusing of "old" battery tech and how ecological EV batteries really are (mining, shipping etc... but then again is it less damaging the fossil fuels?) - there's so much propaganda on both sides of the argument. I'm doing my bit having invested in solar energy and cutting down my gas use - but for cars, I can't quite justify it at the moment.

For now I'm going to run the 2 diesels I have to the ground as it's more cost effective for me, plus they both do 500-600 miles between fill ups. They're light, old cars that are reliable and I have no need to swap them. We don't live near any ULEZ areas or near any EV infrastructure either to be honest!

I want to be enchanted by an EV but not sure why it's just not clicking with me at the moment.

I love reading this thread as someone who is completely on the fence, as it makes me realise it's not as black and white as some articles seem to suggest. I'm sure I wouldn't regret having an EV (if I could afford one), but I don't think I'm ready for it just yet.

Would blow you away in refinement and smoothness going from some crappy diesel filling the air with non CO2 pollutants.
 
i may go electric when i can afford to pay for a good fast electric car like a tesla model S, anything used sub 25k'ish doesn't interest me (all high miles, write offs, etc) and my budget is a lot lower than 25k.

yellow is not far off police car yellow, in someones mirror.

I'd rather have a petrol but it is what it is!

I guess in an ideal world I'd have an EV for local driving, and a petrol for everything else. Other priorities for my cash at the moment!

The car battery is part of the solution to sustainable renewable energy storage and use going forward - see my post here. for an example of how things might change sooner rather than later, much like your investment in the renewable energy generation in your home, only a decade ago most people wouldn't know/consider/want it, and a home storage battery wasn't even considered unless it was lead-acid for off-grid living.

At the moment an ICE car is a from of transport and a consumer of energy/fuel only, and this has to be refined and manufactured elsewhere and for the most part could be significantly reduced once a transition away is established, not to say that perfection can or will be achieved but everything, all changes, have to start somewhere and there need to be those that take the initiative. Convenience is both the curse and the saviour of the modern generation.

Nice. Sat in one of these a couple of weekends ago and it seemed very nice, I do love the 'rossi' hyper yellow. Is there any performance over the standard edition, or is it just trim level?

Yeah, it's pretty decent. I think it feels faster than it is because of the power delivery, but in that sense it does easily push you back into the seat. Got the "MAXX PACK OMG!!!" as it included every possible extra. Umbrella in the door and ice scraper in the boot. Pretty pleased with it. Yes, this is the Coupe version:

As EV owners, how do you feel about the general reliability of your car but in relation to extending the warranty? Would you feel more or less inclined to add an extended warranty as you might an ICE?

The manufacturers warranty on my i3 is just about to end. While I really like it so am keeping it beyond three years manufacturers warranty term, I have made one reasonable expensive claim already and there are two possible issues to be fixed before the warranty ends. However, I think none of these problems are EV specific but one could be which is a noisy AC compressor which might be related to the battery cooling as I believe it does both (cabin, battery cooling), but might be normal according to some so that is yet to be determined if it is indeed an issue.

I don't usually take extended warranties but I'm not feeling confident at the moment that I'll likely save money over the long run without one in this case. While some say there's less moving parts to go wrong, which I understand, the moving parts of ICE's have been refined/improved over decades. EV's are relatively new and there are some parts that will cost many thousands to replace if they fail (possible charging related components, battery, motor).

Interested in what others think. Most are probably leased these days i suppose but would you risk it without an extended warranty as I would usually do or feel it's more of a necessity for EV's? Mine doesn't cover many miles so it's a bit annoying it's had these issues already tbh but on the other hand, could be trouble free for years in future.
