EV general discussion

Weekly charge whilst doing the weekly shop? Makes perfect sense.

Who is going to foot the bill for all of this?

There are 10000 stores in the UK of the big supermarkets. It will make HS2 look like pocket change. What is the environmental impact of installing this and how long would it take for an EV to break even?

It is all a massive joke really but the EV itself is clean right?

Given how many supermarkets already have EV charge points, I assume that either

A) The company that runs them asks the supermarket if they can install them and some kind of financial agreement is reached.
B) The supermarket asks a company to install them for a similar arrangement.

I also assume there is a government grant for installing charge points, which probably helps offset the cost (thank-you for your tax contribution)

Environmental impact of installation? What is the environmental impact of new petrol stations? What is the environmental impact of NOT creating a decent charging network and just happily burning petrol and diesel while putting our fingers in our ears?

Supermarket charging points are great for people that cannot charge at home.

Frankly people that can charge at home will, on average, only need a public charging point a few times a year

Asda, Morrisons have been doing it for years. Sainsburys just starting with the KemPower units. Tesco with podpoint aswell. Big experiment but imagine writing it off before they even try… it’s not like supermarkets already have decent power supplies.

NOTHING will make HS2 look like pocket change, you should see the cables they have installed and roads dug up just to install cables to then temporarily power the tunnel boring machine near bishops itchington! Clueless.

100% agree, I will be charging at home 99% of the time.

But I have multiple friends where parking is so cluttered they often end up 2 or 3 streets away from their house, something like supermarkets or out of town shopping centres where you spend maybe a couple of hours a week is going to be great for charging.

Wouldn't bother responding to him, he literally has nothing useful to add.

There are 9000 petrol stations in the UK. How much do you think it is going to cost to replace them?

Why do they need replacing. Why are you talking about something completely different?

The statement that nothing will make HS2 look like pocket change. Ripping out ICE infrastructure and replacing it with EV compatible that can manage the population is going to cost in the magnitudes of billions for no added benefit apart from the thin truth of being "green".

I've noticed a direct correlation between people who attach their cars as an extension to their personality, rather than a tool which is what they are for the vast majority, are the more vocal on both sides of the argument. The lack of real world knowledge on one side of the argument however speaks volumes, and shows just how powerful the media and FUD really is.

So will building a city on the moon. Not sure how either are relevant to installing chargers at supermarkets ?

Ripping out? They just tickle the power cables to a few feet away. Come to my house and I’ll let you drive me around in my IPACE and I’ll show you HS2 effect.

Was gonna use a street charger today. Some moron was parked next to it in his BMW asleep with the engine idling. That’s the moronic air pollution we all suffer in the towns…. It’s not cool, it’s not cool Adam.

well sunak promised £1 billion to improve the backbone infrastructure and often the EV charging companies will install the units for free so long as they keep the profits from charging ..... so a win win as the supermarket gets EV drivers choosing to shop with them whilst they charge.

as for the environmental impact? give over! what about the environmental impact of trucking around millions of litres of petrol/diesel , also cars have to park somewhere , the footprint of the charge point is not that big.
I doubt we are talking 350kw chargers .... 50kw should be ok. (100kw would be perfect however)

Admiral insure my I-pace... its a multi car policy and obviously your age, driving history and postcode will radically change the equation but i am only paying around 525 quid, protected NCB with....... £350 i think excess.

my policy started in June this year. What they will charge for renewal however i dunno.
This thread moves quickly!

Admiral won’t insure it, neither will AXA, AA or Directline. Flux said 3k, Tescos said 9k!! Best I can get is £1500 through esure. I pick the car up on Thursday so will keep looking.
Current car is an Alfa Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde and I pay £500. Have 19 years no claims.

petrol stations need significant refurbishment semi regularly anyway (or at least they have it anyway. ICE cars won't end over night. hell out local BP has been closed and under going a refurb for the last month or so and it's not anywhere near finished yet (hopefully it's to also install charge points but I can't see them yet!!)
rather than rip them out I suspect as ICE cars drop in number , as they need refurbishing they will likely just not be renewed. the land can then be used for something else (one near us that closed became a car wash), or maybe a coffee shop with charge points.

Hell. at one point BP tried to rebrand as beyond petroleum, they could literally keep going just slowly migrate to EV charging , over time installing more charge points and keeping a pump just maybe only 1 .

there will be no mass ripping out. either you have been brainwashed by the gutter press.or are deliberately trolling imo .
