I've had an i3 for a weekend, granted no sports car, but I have EV experience. But that's besides the point, you said you don't buy an EV for spirited driving, which is incorrect information, because you can and people do, and makers have models that do cover that.
 
I have a e92 for that and a EV for the journeys that arent about making YouTube vids.

An i3 is a weird car anyway.and hardly reflective of todays offer

What even are you talking about? Just stop. I mentioned solid state batteries because they have their obvious benefits as a long term thing which have already been posted. Now you're mixing the two because there's nothing better to reply back with.

You said you wouldn’t buy a EV till they are solid state. If you really can get 750miles then a lighter 375 mile battery would be better for someone like you surely due to much lower weight.

Plus in my experience of many EV, it’s not a car you buy for spirited driving to replace a high revving NA so trying to do that is wrong. It’s like buying a microwave to replace a pizza oven.

An EV is car to replace a crappy diesel with the huge tax and NVh benefits. Very different requirements too.

To be honest I think you have little experience of EV and regurgitating what you read. Solid state are hardly any different and when you can charge your car when you sleep the range isn’t really an issue as your car always full.

I thought that when you were inventing a future battery tech and deciding it’s attributes :)
 
I purchased my M3P for its performance. 0-60 close to 3 seconds and even Top Gear had it beating a BMW M3 around a track. Made it somewhat of a bargain, especially when you consider you get all that performance without any maintenance.

If battery tech increased then I'd prefer weight loss rather than more range. As it stands I can drive anything up to 6 hours without stopping, already kinda silly.

How many miles do you get?

My issue has been when you are going away for a few nights, so that 6 hours of driving isn't a one-er but a trip to the office...to hotel...to office...to hotel...to office...to home.

Interesting fact, i3 is the fastest car BMW made 0-30mph. So if you like traffic light grand prix, or spirited town driving within the speed limits then its great.

Again. Performance in a straight line is not the same as the experience of spirited driving.

Up to 300, if I was to stay away I would look for somewhere with a charger or at least a socket. Or look to visit places with destination chargers, so I could charge whilst I'm doing other stuff.

Worst case scenario I need to use fast chargers a bit, the Supercharger network makes this easy and the car plans them in by default if required.

Well as I said it, Top Gear found it faster around a track than a BMW M3. I'll admit it isn't that much fun though, smaller cars are always more fun for driving on UK roads.

It is a very pointy car and weighs less than the recent BMW M3s with XDrive.
 
Prob is the short journeys do hurt range compared to compare to 300mile one shot trips as the cabin and battery is constantly being warmed or cooled.

Definitely found this with my M3LR. The weeks where I’m doing all local trips, I’d get around 190 miles to an 80% charge. Long trips I’d get more like 270 miles.

I’m using one now to mop up some free Bonnet kWh that I couldn’t use in France: so whilst waiting for daughter to finish her dance lesson I’m chogging in a pub carpark. DPD van has been parked here for 24hrs unplugged. Cretin

Can anyone shed any light as to why there are a load of Pod Point 3 chargers on eBay (£350 untethered)? Has a container got mugged or something?

Phoned one bloke who had 8 of them and said he knew nothing of them, no warranty etc -- which made me put the phone down. However it seems unless you spend £700 for a PodPoint certified installer you don't get a warranty anyway.

Worth the risk?
