Link? Assuming this isn't a "50% chance to burn your house down" type battery ;)

I don't think it's too off-topic, for anyone doing decent mileage in an EV, it's going to be a significant chunk of their electricity costs, coupled with the fact that many time-of-use tariffs are aimed towards EV charging (and in some cases even require one).
 
just need that killer v2x capability - take the battery with you when you move, lifespan/amortization concerns reduced ....
if cars like id4 arrive where they can enable compatability with s/w patch that's a good usp

Solar panels and battery - any real world recommendations?

Your looking at about £3500-£4000 installed with an inverter and a sensibly priced electrician.

If you prefer something from a recognised ecosystem, you can now get a GivEnergy AIO with whole home back up gateway installed for £6-7k following the VAT changes. Tesla power walls are about £500 more, including the gateway.

I’m sure a normal 10kwh AC coupled battery would come in somewhere in the middle.

ok no buttons - but at least it's android automotive - you've got the google nav with waze magic dust,
audio system software and equalizers better than custom brew stuff lock-in from audi/bm through wider platform development, tidal high quality audio app. (like i use at home)

Opening up ? don't know if you can user your own sim and have your calls directly received wi-fi calling on the car system to get hd sound quality, as opposed to bluetooth limitations.
 
I spent a day in an Enyaq, it was a 2022 model, which is the rubbish infotainment version. TBH I had no issues at all with it. No better or worse than the Idrive in my 330e.

Touchscreens are fine. Even mad tablet ones. I want to test a highland model 3, to see what the indicator are like in real life.

Touchscreens are awful. Even in the frequently praised idrive system in the BMW, once they got rid of the buttons, its a nightmare. I spend way too much time having to glance at the screen to see what I am changing that what is safe. And I hate it when you just go over a bump as you are just about to "push" the right button on the screen and you end up clicking something else instead.

I am glad some manufacturers are bringing back physical buttons for things like heaters/aircon/drive modes etc.
 
Seems odd they have pretty much banned touching a phone while driving (they updated it again recently, even turning the screen on can get you fined now). Yet these touchscreen controls are still allowed.

You cannot feel what you're doing with a screen, you have to look. It's dangerous.

Yeah also find it bizarre. With the likes of android auto, WhatsApp intergration etc it's basically just having a large phone on your dash
 
AFAIK you can still use a touchscreen phone if it's mounted, you're just not allowed to hold it and use it. I don't think there's any significant inconsistency in the mobile device rules vs touchscreen infotainment.

True but you can pretty much use it all with audio and voice, I do thats for sure.

Just needs discipline in the same way having loads of power under your foot too.

Can't be bothered digging out the direct legislation at the moment but this (from gov.uk) is extremely misleading IMO if that's the case:

Using devices hands-free​

You can use devices with hands-free access, as long as you do not hold them at any time during usage. Hands-free access means using, for example:

  • a Bluetooth headset
  • voice command
  • a dashboard holder or mat
  • a windscreen mount
  • a built-in sat nav
The device must not block your view of the road and traffic ahead.

Using the specific legislation introduced in 2003 or the catch all of 'being distracted' which can be used for anything from using a phone to eating a sandwich?

I had to go on a mobile device type 'whats driving us' course- they saw the phone light up in the cradle at the traffic lights. Im pretty sure one the policemen was from Thames Valley police and on police interceptors too :cry:

There was some loopholes with phone use but they have now been closed.
