EV general discussion

Who gets to decide what is "decent and factual"?

*Hint* It is not you....

Attempts to gatekeep a discussion thread are taken dimly from a moderation perspective.

Opinions are valid, and things like "handling" are subjective as such they will vary.
Yes, but not 'one's' opinion over many others.

The pitchforks are coming for you

But we all know you have owned one
Yes a current EV driver :p The owner's ironically are generally less passionate it seems

Yep. I've walked that path before.

To be honest the statements you made about 600 mile EV trips in winter without destination charging is extremely helpful. I've been told so many times I should have an EV for work but I cover the whole of the UK 12 months a year. So you've added balance to the counterargument for that.

As long as work are paying for the public charging I expect you COULD make it work, but it would certainly be more hassle than an ICE car. My EQC is pretty inefficient to start with and the cold has only made that worse, so the range is in the 170-180 mile bracket and I’d want to be charging before then anyway just in case of broken chargers etc, especially in more remote areas. Planning would be required and not everyone can be arsed with that.

Possible? Yes.

Worth it? Debatable.

If driving for work, if you are doing random routes then its trickier, but if you are seeing the same clients (seems wrong to say that now that ive read the rent boy comment :p) then its way easier. For every 300mile plus trip i do, i have 2 or 3 fast chargers earmarked. ive been fortunate, tesla networks have appeared on all my routes!

You lot are lucky Simon's on holiday, he'd have put his EV Thread Police uniform on and kicked all your arses out of here for having the absolute gall to discuss things like heating and ownership pros and cons.

You really don't.

I really appreciate it when people give their experience and opinion on any topic. When one person's experience or opinion becomes 'right' at the detriment of anyone else's it's no longer a discussion.

Some people have clearly been triggered by someone going from EV back to ICE, personally I'm happy to read about their experience and it will be filed up in the lordrobs data centre, along with everyone else's when it comes to new company car time. At which point I'll use my own judgement to determine what is relevant for me and my circumstances.

Theres no triggering. But if some one is going to say something that doesn't make a lot of sense on a discussion form they are going to get called out on it. Especially if they double down.

Yeah no one has to home charge and they can certainly pick the most expensive public chargers they can.

I don't public charge that often but I might choose the more expensive chargers as often they are less busy (no queues) and have longer cables. Cost isn't a factor because I don't do it that good
often. The facilities on site might be better.

But you're going to get short thrift with "all EVs are crap" then backtrack adding snippets that attempt to change what was originally posted. No mention of heated windscreen either.

It's a discussion that got highly charged.

People trying avoid the reality they have to go back to work after Xmas.

Just spotted a Renault Twizy in a local used dealer. So tempted to get a test drive.
