EV general discussion

Test drove an Ioniq 6 today.

Does feel a bit cheaper than the ID 7, but driving experience is a bit better.

Really nice suspension, excellent brakes.

Pricing on them is good atm but not sure how long it’d last, and won’t be in a position to get one for a little while.

Dealership experience was infinitely better than any VW/BMW/Audi dealership I’ve been to as well.

Shame it’s so weird looking
Is it the 2025 face-lift model you drove? It has a different front and rear and updated nav and screen to the previous versions.

I’m going to take a look at it today along with some other EV’s.

Quite sad but I need to get in and out of some cars to keep them shortlisted or remove them.

Damn herniated disc injury so having to “drop” into cars is no good for me.
There are some well documented battery related issues with these.

Otherwise drives great but range and charging is decisively ‘last gen’ as others have said.

The Model Y, Ionic 5, EV6 and Mach-E can all be had at this price point and the ‘EV bits’ are far better on those but the iPace outshines it in every other way. Otherwise drives great options in the ‘Mid’-sized ‘SUV’ is the Ariya, ID.4 and the Enyak.

The old last gen iX3 is dipping down into this price point also, it will be higher milage though.

so suspension and seat comfort is major concern ? had one of those and at the time considered selling my 3 series, and got an additional tempur lumber cushion nonetheless ..
didn't the new highland model3 inherit comfier seats from S/X, otherwise is volvol/geely still a class leader.

What's everybody's go to for leccy providers with car charging, was looking at octopus but they balance it out with a high day time charge..

Our electricity usage is now around 50/50 daytime rate to night time rate so we are way ahead even with a slightly higher daytime rate on IOG. We have two EVs so the saving over a non EV tariff is huge.

Fixed that for you.

Basically, running any EV, or two in my case aswell, saves so much money compared to petrol or diesel that it doesn’t really matter which supplier you go with as long as you get a cheap overnight rate between 5p and 10p. This sounds like a large range, but for my 5 hours at 7kw it’s £1.75 to £3.50 for maybe 100 miles of range.

Something which I didn’t appreciate when I bought my charger was getting one that works with Intelligent Octopus Go so they could schedule cheap charging at any time of the day. Worth considering!

My average cost per Kw is about 11p, that's more important than the fact I'm paying 31p peak rate.

Went to look at the ipace but thankfully, it had been sold. I say thankfully, as I had been reading up and reliability is a massive concern. Chap at the Jag dealer said that it was sold but waiting for a part, which was a bit of a red flag!

So, I’ve now narrowed it down to a 2023 RWD Ioniq 5 Ultimate Spec or a 2023 Tesla Model Y RWD.

Would love the AWD versions but that pushes budget up a fair bit.

The Ioniq 5 is being moved from its current location to a site closer to me for Friday morning to view and test drive. Hopefully they’ll also still have a Model Y that I can also test.

Keen to hear how you get on, I'm down to the same two or the ev6. I drove a model y last week and was well impressed, if I can find one at the right price that doesn't sell before I get there that'll be the one for me. I want the dual motor long range just for the certainty of making one regular long trip we do without needing to charge anywhere even when the battery is end of life.

I considered the EV6 but my other requirement is our female Irish Red Setter needs to go into the boot and from looking at images and videos, it looks more comfortable in the Ioniq 5 and definitely in the Tesla.

Shame as there are some AWD GT Line’s in my budget.

I loved my Ioniq 5 the amount of space inside is fantastic and the seats are so comfy. I’m not a fan of Tesla I test drove a few but they are all very meh to me to minimalist I think and everything being on the one screen was a pain. I get why people like them though.

Our Golden retriever fitted fine in the Ioniq no problem. It is quite a jump up though ok if your dog is ok jumping in or can be lifted older dogs might struggle.
