I haven’t owned one but my mum has got one.

I just find setting up schedules really weird in it, if you’re not connecting it to a tariff.


It’s down as routines and I don’t think the language makes much sense. I think it could be clearer perosnally

Then I saw the lease deal ~ £5.5k for 2yrs, almost disposable at that price thought why not. Ok a bit cheap inside considering the cost of the car but I don’t mind at this price. :D

Super short range not really a problem for me, our XC60 T8 35-40 mile battery suits me daily with charge left over.

I’m going to be an EV owner … Gulp

If I don’t get on with it I could buy something else and it can just sit on the drive :D

Well motor arrived this weekend :cool: well it actually came 2wks ago but arrived broken so couldn't pass PDI :( hopefully not a sign of a problem car. Still dealer was cool, kept me updated and compensated me appropriately, making the cheap motor even cheaper, I'm such a tight arse :D

It was unfortunate as I was doing a highland trip the week I was supposed to be picking it up and hoped to take the Abarth for a good old ranting/get to know you session outside of my typically stop/start 30mph max Bristol traffic. :(

Still early days, seems to be a great car, better than I remember from the test drive, though I did only try the 240. Obviously, we are in optimal conditions from a weather perspective for an EV so it seems to do reasonable energy use with my speed limiter in the car (the missus) plenty quick enough to have some fun.

I've not been keeping up with the whole public charging situation with EVs but suspect there will be occasions I will have to public charge as it is not the most efficient and has a small battery, I have electroverse what else do I need to have installed setup up app wise to cover most bases, I doubt I need a sub, it'd be rare use, once a month maybe?

I've got an original Ohme Home charger and had same experience. It's like they don't really get any input from EV owners. That said, they were great at fixing a bug I came across. I've forgotten all the issues I had with it, including why it simply won't do what I expect it to at times.
I stopped using the Ohme app as moved to a smart tariff and used the energy supplier's app. That's got similar issues too, not really doing what I expect to. For example, tell it to charge to 80% by 6am and at 6:20am it's still charging the car and is on 92%. I understand why they might do that, as it's using the extended cheap rate electric that has become available(probably!), but at least give users a simple checkbox that states "Stop charging at this %".
Also had an issue recently where I plugged the car in and it started charging and the energy supplier's app didn't recognise it was plugged in for around 25minutes, during which time I was being charged at the daytime rate. Reading into it they advise keeping an eye on it when plugging in and taking action to manually stop the charge session if it happens. So much for "smart" charging. Probably not entirely their fault as rely on the BMW service but it's all just still a bit flaky.

I've now moved to using the Ohme app again and just charging midnight to 6am as don't have confidence in the energy supplier's software managing charging during any daytime cheap rate periods, or, as above, charging for a while during the daytime as it's not detected the car is plugged in. However, I've realised I need to take about 10% off the SoC I input when I plug in as Ohme is overcharging the car by that amount and they don't have access to the BMW api anymore to automatically obtain the current SoC.

I must say the Ioniq 6 is very close to being a perfect EV IMO.

It drives really really well.


Biggest complaints for me:


- Seating position is too high. I’m not super tall at 6 foot 1 but I cannot get the HUD to display clearly even on the lowest height. If I bend down a little it makes it super clear. My head is also touching the headliner all the time. This is with the seat at its lowest.



- Efficiency really is pretty poor for a car which isn’t a massive brick. I’ve been averaging lower than originally anticipated at low 3s. The ID 4 does high 3s and the ID 7 would do high 4s this time of year. I think it’d be a better car with a single more powerful rear motor at ~280 BHP which would decrease insurance cost a fair bit too. The single motor version is not quite quick enough IMO.



- I’d rather have 18 inch alloys on the ultimate. It would ride a tiny bit better and would improve range. Would also make it a bit quieter on some roads.



- The boot could have done with being a hatchback to make it a perfect family car.



- The headlights are meh. Xenon’s in my 435i are better and ID 7 is miles ahead. The highbeam in particular is very focused forwards so you don’t see anything on the sides of the road. Not ideal in the countryside.





Other than that I don’t think I’ve got a bad word to say about it. Infotainment is quirky but I love how settings rich it is. You can change basically everything, including a blue light filter.


Physical controls on the steering wheel are really nice.


I love the centre console having the window switches. This is a great solution to “how can we save money”, and it makes VW look like they’ve never made a car before.


It’s a very quiet car on the road.


It’s plenty quick enough.




Outside of the issues I’ve had with Richmond Hyundai, I would actually highly recommend this car unless you’re 6 foot or taller - I find the seating position super weird and not sure I’d ever get used to it.

My Volvo has independent adjustment for HUD itself, perhaps the Hyundai does?

Not had a chance, but yeah, it looks good, the Renault well Alpine looks better, has better interior quality and infotainment IMO but the Abarth is a better car, not just to drive but also to get in and out :D better for people, though it was a squeeze for 5 yesterday, should have took the Volvo but I couldn't have a new car and not drive it, so breathe in everybody :D it also has no silly centre console that impedes your legs like the Alpine and of course cupholders :D

It flies along with an old school hot hatch feel, bit of scrabble, a light wrestle and a juvenile engine noise, love it, the missus not so much, kept telling me to turn the sound off because it's embarrassing :D

The Sabelt seats bit much for a family SUV, I think they hold me in as well as my track car, watching my missus try to get out :cry: :cry::cry:

Found the brakes a little bit mixed, sometimes amazing, and sometimes a bit wooden, hopefully after a few hundred miles of wear they or I will adjust.

Haha :D Don’t take this the wrong way, but you listed a bunch a bad points only to go on to say… other than that you have nothing bad to say about it.

So it’s inefficient
Has a very cramped drivers cabin
Poor seating layout
Not practical due to being a saloon
Headlights aren’t great
HUD has inadequate adjustment
Dealership was crap

But not a bad word to say about it… right gotcha;)

All kidding aside I am happy you are out of that ID7 deal. Good luck with the (almost) perfect Ioniq 6.

Just what I was thinking!

Good job that minor windscreen washer problem came up to give the final straw excuse to reject it. Would have been a long 3 years driving a car you can't comfortably sit in.

Also, no matter how wronged I felt with the whole situation, I don't think I could in all good conscience continue putting miles on a car I have no intention paying a penny for.

Yeah, some of those points would be more than just bad, they would be deal breakers for most.

“It’s uncomfortable and I feel cramped driving it, but I’ll take”, are not worlds most dealerships would be used to hearing.

They’re just my complaints, recognising I’m very particular about cars and taller than the average person.


There’s so much more to a car than the several points I’ve listed and most are unique to me and just preference :)
