The IM6 long range (Temu Model Y) has a 100kwh battery (95.5 usable) but only 388 miles WLTP.
A model Y long range (similar performance) gets 378 miles from a 78kwh (75 usable).
How is that not bad efficiency?

You've picked one model, one of their latest ones at that and declared that historically they have poor efficiency
Across their whole range they're just average.
I was asked for one example, I gave it.

I only bought it up in the context of quoted range figures of their new model being something to take caution over until it’s actually tested.
The low speeds of the the CLTC/WLTP tests gives a nice healthy number across their range but at motorway speeds is where they really suffer and real world range drops off.

Well, I can also say with certainty that the MG5 is also very inefficient, at least when compared to a model 3.
My friend owns one and we went to the lakes last weekend.
I was getting 4.8mi/kWh at "proper" motorway speeds (aka lane 4)
He was getting 3.9mi/kWh at 50-60 sat in lane 1 behind a lorry
Same road and same weather, so as good an apples-apples comparison as any other head-head test

If we are getting pedantic about it, the cyberster is another. The IM5 isn’t great either. That’s three of seven cars in the current range which brute force the range with a larger battery.
As I said above, they drop away as you increase speeds and range for the vast majority of people only matters when you are on long runs which tend to be at higher speeds.
It’s all well and good getting a nice WLTP score pootling around at 40mph but performed at higher speeds is what you are really wanting.
In regards to their older models, the ZS was bad at motorway speeds, range drops off very quickly compared to other cars from that era.
The MG4 is ‘ok’ but it’s at the bottom end of the pack but again, drops away as you increase speed. I’m not including the Xpower in this which is worse again.
Let’s get back to the substance of my post. All I said was don’t take the range numbers as gospel until it’s actually been tested/reviewed.
To ass to this, the RRP will also go up 50-100% when it lands in the U.K. also.

I can only dream of those stats....Though when i'm awake i still get an ear to ear grin getting 2-2.5mi/kwh......

If I'm getting high 3's low 4 miles per kWh then I'm doing it wrong.
When you said historically I was expecting more than 1 car.
As I have a mg5 i was thinking my car is decent on efficency.

If I'm getting high 3's low 4 miles per kWh then I'm doing it wrong.
Mine came super early, had it a couple of weeks now, if you have any amount of fun in it you won't even hit 2mpkwh
Blimey even in traffic being calmed but every one else, it is not amazing, especially considering the weather right now, though it is high 3s, winter is going to be brutal, still handles well, feels great and I do like the sound generator, I'm quite enjoying it, honeymoon phase though
Whilst electricity is cheap its efficiency is irrelevant to me.
Will try it at the local track soon, see how it fares, 124mph might be limiting, as will the range, normally do 60 odd laps in my track car at almost 2 miles a lap, somehow think I won't be doing that, the lunchtime fill up will be a bit long.... it'd probably need two

Nice, Castle Combe? I'm about 5 minutes from Oulton Park, although I wont be using it on track, more for weekend fun locally.
Mines a Turismo so no sound generator.
Just to clarify, that’s what YOU want. It’s not necessarily something most other people would want.
Most of us just pootle around as you call it with an average overall speed of less than 30mph on their long term trip meter. So motorway efficiency in an EV it costs less than £10 to top up is hardly life changing savings.

lol, I literally just checked my long term trip meter for my Cupra Born. It is at 28mph average over 9600ish miles. And I do plenty of motorway trips, but most of them are in normal traffic.
It’s almost like different people have different priorities on what makes a good EV.
