EV general discussion

The Hyundai was finally collected earlier this week, now to wait and see the outcome of the investigation into my complaint.

Half expecting them to tell me to jog on with claiming back insurance costs but we'll see.

with three and vodaphone merger, or 3g shutdown (had some o2 texts a few months bsack) is there some consolidation of 4g masts and possibility
of new bermuda triangles, which is where I live diddums.

eventually but the shortlist is short - I think stellantis with both designs and lighter cars (from smaller batteries & engineering), + design,
is where it's at - they just need to put the 280bhp+lsd from junior velocee into the hatch e408; chinese/koreans mb, bmw typically heavy
and lost the dynamics i have in a 1500kg audi estate.

You can get a 280Hp Stellantis Corsa with LSD if you wanted small and light ish.

It's all just guff, always.

They could literally pick'n'mix a car for him specifically. They could gather the finest engineers in the world, stick them around a table, and build a car dedicated to him, going over every single component to make sure he's happy, and he'd still find a reason to nope out of it.

Makes for good entertainment tho, and perhaps more importantly, great **** taking :D

Eek, starting to have regrets going with Ohme Pro. Was fine for a year or so but now loses 4G connection, turning it into a dumb charger, and so premium higher rate charge from Octopus.

Started with once every couple weeks to now being down 3 days straight. Power cycling no longer fixes it, and no WiFi backup, it’s doesn’t have the hardware for that.

Engineer organised from Ohme coming out 9th Sept…managed to charge it to 93% the other day when it magically came back up aaand like clockwork it went down again overnight. Very frustrating and highlights the issue all this inconnnected tech.
Exactly the same as happened to mine, kept going offline. The engineer will have a brand new one in his van as it is a common problem. He won't troubleshoot your existing one and will just replace it. Sadly only 6 months or so later mine is playing up again and refuses to pair with the car which leads to it charging over thhe limit I set even if I tell it how much charge the car already has at plug in. Garbage charger, garbage app and garbage customer service, I wish I never heard of OHME!!

Mine is ok had an issue once and turned it off and on again and been fine since. I find the APP pretty good. I don’t like the way it sometimes charges in small bits like 10 mins but it’s doing it a lot less now.

It was the recommended one when I had it fitted but when dies I will probably replace it with a different one but will do it myself.

Interesting. From what I gathered online its meant to be a software issue, that is to say Ohme can remotely send some command (firmware?) thing that refreshes the eSIM inside it. I pretty much guess what we all do with our phones using eSIM.

The Ohme AI (….) alluded to doing this with some mumble jumble about changing “backend” stuff for this chargers registration but never outright said so. The support desk just sorta went straight to “we’ll send an engineer” when I passed them everything I did prior.

I don’t want something swapped out for the sake of it, I hate that stuff because you’re just wasting everyone’s time and money.

The API stuff has been fine aside from the odd OTA car update severing the permissions and I have to refresh that via Tesla/Ohme. The worst part was finding the correct URL for the car to actually do it, now I’ve bookmarked it.

The sheer volume of talk I hear from the few EV owners at work about troubles with "intelligent" charging I'm surprised more don't just opt for old fashioned dual rate tariffs and bin off the game of "Greg says" for charging the car!

Zero issues in 6+ years with my Ohme, and the majority of that time has been with an intelligent tariff, the important bit for me that people miss is don't try and join your car API as well as the charger.

You have to use intelligent go for the best prices. "Normal" go is 1p/kWh dearer and 1h shorter per night.

Though tbh, since they've binned off greener nights, I only charge once a month on the intelligent bit. Rest of the time I turn it off. I think the terms are that you have to charge on intelligent once a month to remain eligible for the tariff.

Yeah I just have mine set up that I select what car and then how much I want to charge. The EV6 is easy I just set it to %100 and the car stops it at whatever I have set.

The Corsa I just guess and hope it ends up near %80 as by the time I remember to authenticate the app I have forgotten what is left in the car and can’t be arsed going to look.

Most of the IOG charging issues are Octopus giving the cars grief to be honest. I used to see on our ID.7 that they'd keep waking it up all the time when it was plugged in, draining the 12 V battery and then the car would disconnect to try and save power and charging would be unreliable. We switched to EDF 3 months ago now and wouldn't you know, it works perfectly now. The car doesn't get discharged when connected to the charger anymore, even if you leave it plugged in for days before starting a smart charging session.

Mine just works, it’s linked via my Tesla rather than the charger.

That said, I’m not surprised VW’s have issues. A friends of mines won’t reliably charge from solar. It has a hissy fit of the solar drops out a few times and the charger turns off. The only way to ‘fix it’ is to unplug the car and plug it back in again.

It’s as if they didn’t test it… or bother to fix it despite being a widely reported issue for years at this point.

I must be in the minority, no issues with the ID7 and IOG, octopus is connected to the car not my podpoint.

Loads of charging failures on my ID Buzz since about 3 months ago on IOG. Think they changed the API or something. Have had to disable the intelligent bit to actually get a full 6 hours of charge unfortunately
