EV general discussion

Anyone although it’s a bit naughty posting a referral link on this forum.

Edit: you don’t get the discounted rate for having the IOG tariff, usually 8% off I think.

Edit2: I wonder what will happen as I'm still an Octopus customer and have a live direct debit for my heat pump service plan. I'm guessing I will lose the 8% discount once they catch up but direct billing may still work - not that I have used it more than a handful of times in the last 4 years.
Did you not post a referall link for EDF!’?!

apparently not. i had a 24h suspension for doing just that lol
You can say referrals are available but perhaps the line is 'you can get a referral code when signing up' vs 'use my referral code for switching to XXX, PM MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE'.

EDIT: you defo can't post your own link

Anyone moved to Eon Smart?

I've not been getting any extra charging slots when plugging the car in when it's very low. I was just getting the 6 hours so with an 85kwh battery, it was regularly wat off full in the morning.

Realised that I'd set my charge by time to 6.30 and it wouldn't just go passed that until I disconnect, unlike Octopus. I set it to 11am on Saturday and it charged all morning.

I wasn't aware of the shifting dates, is this common?

Thank goodness you told me - we're planning quite a trip when we get the car.
For my original RWD order which I placed in early May it went from the original AUG/SEP to end of June (then the registration issues hit) it then moved to NOV/DEC, then after I sourced an AWD lightly used it moved back to end of SEP (which I cancelled)

Just be prepared for a bit of a roller coaster, it settles eventually and for the Y at least most deliveries tend to be in the last month of the quarter! So next batch due late NOV end of DEC. After that likely March!

I won't be happy if they mess me around like that!

Thanks for the heads up.

I've not used Eon's system although from my understanding they also use Kraken so it should be similar. In my experience Octopus cuts off if it is not at your charge target by your target ready time. Particularly now the 6 hour charge cap is in place.

The prices on Eon are a bit Eeek and a lot higher than EDF which I guess is why there is limited discussion of it.

Off peak 8.1p vs 6.66p
Day 33p vs 32p

Also if you are on a time of use tariff they will only give you 6p on export vs 13p on EDF.

Before I switched the Octopus deal they were offering was 6.6p off peak with a 6 hour charge cap, 36p day and 12p export

In the 3 years I've been using TOU tariffs, EDF has been the cheapest. Even accounting for the standing charges. (Used eon, then octopus, now EDF )

I think there is a bit of a disconnect there between the EV side looking at the pure commute range and the other side considering things often aren't that simple when you have to consider the possibility of things like diversions or additionally running some errands as well as the commute, etc. but not want to get bogged down in the details in a conversation.
I can relate to this, there are guys in work who love to try and sell people on "EVs for all!" and I can literally explain to them that I like EVs and as soon as they become viable for me I'm planning to switch, I'll even mention I'm following the upcoming BYD long range/flash charging stuff, and they will still try and convince me to buy a Tesla that will cost more to run than my hybrid and lack the range I need xD

I've seen it mentioned more than once that they have changed them within 24 hours for some as well, which is obviously a massive ball ache if you've gotten rid of your old car, sorted insurance and booked train tickets or similar to actually go and collect it.

As with everything like this when it works as intended it's a lovely smooth process, when computer starts going wonky and humans don't have the ability to do anything it gets a bit/lot frustrating.

Sucks when your don't have of road parking. Stick to your guns, and wait until it is right for you even if that is 2035 or beyond.
had he said he doesn't have home charging ? there is a group of people who make long trips regularly and the compromise of long stops at same as petrol costs,
against home trips for peanuts doesn't work, not even considering private ownership depreciation, driving pleasure, insurance.

to wit - phev's not only selling well in europe because of lower duties, maybe Lie's decision not too bad, was covetting someones A5 avant phev this weekend

We're trading in fortunately, so regardless of when we get the car it'll be a straight swap. Only thing is that we want to book a eurotrip in it so need to book train / hotels / whatever - the dates for which will be dictated by the day we receive the car, so that could screw things up for us. I might just wait until we've actually got it before booking anything, seems I'm just inviting frustration if I book it based on their date.

Bit of an awkward one. When were you looking to go on your trip?

When did you place your order @Diddums? What is your current "estimated" date range showing as? It should start to narrow as you get to November.

Can’t take that long to get a Tesla surely..?

You would be surprised, new orders for the Model Y are already showing March I believe.
