EV general discussion

When did you place your order @Diddums? What is your current "estimated" date range showing as? It should start to narrow as you get to November.

You would be surprised, new orders for the Model Y are already showing March I believe.

Three weeks ago. Date on the app is "estimated December" still. Meh.

Figured this would be best suitable in here. I recently bought a 3 year old Model Y from Cinich back in August, here is my experience in case it helps anyone who's curious or is thinking about buying from Cinch blind.

Initial Purchase - painless as you'd expect no surprises here, completed via online payment portal with the option of splitting across cards.

Part Ex - Valuation was by far and away the best price I could find across various dealers, and the usual webuyanycar clones.

Pickup - Picked up at one of their satellite locations, part ex inspection was painless as they gave my old car a 30 second look over and asked me to sign a few forms on an Ipad. Handed over the Tesla key cards once I had signed a few more virtual forms

Drive home and Inspection at home - I Was left with 50% battery more than enough to get home, when I checked there were a few scuffs, 1 being quite long but very shallow which blended out with 5 mins work.

After a few weeks of driving it I figured all was well and I was going to leave a glowing review, then @GuruJockStrap posted about his car and number plate/boot issue. I checked mine and sure enough they had done something similar and the screws were left tapping against the paintwork.

I figured it would be simple exercise of them apologising and fixing it.... Fast forward multiple phones calls stretching over 7 hours, the end result was nothing they would do and it was industry standard to have number plates mounted like that . I asked for this is be escalated via email and again several emails later I got the same response industry standard and nothing they were willing to do!

Fast forward a few more emails and they agreed to send out a smart repairer.. 3 days later a mechanical engineer arrived and laughed at the workmanship and apologised saying nothing he could do, he wrote up a report saying it was embarrassing workmanship and it required a respray. I was shown the report and signed it, I figured that would be that. 2 days later another email saying it was fair wear and tear and should be expected of a car that is 3 years old!

I decided the best course of action was raising a section 75 with my credit card provider, contacting C level Cinch management via email and sent a physical letter to their legal address in London. A week later the director of customer services called me and spent an hour listening to me complain about the situation. To her credit she asked me what would be a happy resolution for me, I sent a respray of the entire boot at my choice of garage, swapping my car with an alternative or a complete refund with my preference being in that order.

Sure enough she agreed to pay for the respray assuming I didn't take the mick. Boot has been resprayed and number plate mounted correctly so a satisfactory resolution from my side.

Would I buy from them again, if the right car and part ex offer was appealing I probably would, however I wouldn't buy blind again and I would definitely be checking everything with a fine tooth comb before signing anything.

Hopefully a balanced review on Cinch is useful for someone as online they all seem to be extreme one way or another

That's mental they've said that. Yeah... awful work seems to be the industry standard.

Jesus... wear and tear?

Glad you had the ability to use section 75. That's such a useful tool for expensive stuff honestly.

Sounded like an absolute nightmare, but glad you managed to get it resolved in the end.

I forgot to mention the lady also mentioned they had identified and the person who did the prep and the appropriate action was taken. For obvious reasons she didn’t say what that was.

Paying on credit card was a conscious decision on my behalf. Saved me a few thousand when made.com went bust.

Glad it worked out and good for you for sticking to your guns. Hopefully they learn to do a decent job in the first place.
Car supermarkets, they couldn't care less, partly because the majority of customers don't care either.
Couple of self tapers through the number plate, job done, very little chance of the plates being straight or the screws equispaced.
I live near fow and cinch, I use them for having a look at specific models when I'm car shopping, but I don't buy from them.

I’m up to an 8000 page document of my correspondences with the Customer Service department from where I purchased my vehicle from.

In addition to forcing tapping screws to mount the dealer number plate, the rear tailgate had also undergone a previous smart repair.

The thickness of the paint in the highlighted section is thicker than anywhere else on the vehicle by approx 130 microns. A chap on my street is a Manager at my local Tesla dealer and he kindly inspected it with a digital paint thickness measuring tool (also confirmed that Tesla won’t obviously cover it under warranty).

I have no proof that the dealer I purchased the vehicle from did this repair (their records will though) or, if it was done by the previous owner.

They’ve acknowledged the two issues but I’m trying to get them to provide a substantive response confirming their proposed approach to both areas and what guarantee or warranty will apply to the completed work.

They've instructed a Smart Repair company that they use to contact me and do the repair work but given there was a previous smart repair done, I want to know exactly what they are going to do before I accept as a simple cosmetic repair isn’t going to do.

Well, the EV3 has been delivered.
Spent some of the morning setting it up and then went for a short spin. Nice to drive, not rapid but ok for me.
As it's the GT Line S, set up the HUD, media, etc and will see how it is on the trip down to Slough tomorrow morning.
Seats are lovely

In fairness numberplate and self tappers isn't exclusive to car supermarkets. Have a look round local garages ... Bodyshop repairer guy said he gets anywhere from 15 -25 cars in a year with similar issues.

It blows my mind why they would go to the trouble take off the plate holder and stick on a new plate without it for the only 'benefit' being a cinch branded number plate no one actually wants.

If I bought a used car from cinch, the first thing what would be coming off is the cinch branded number plate, its just tacky. The stock plate holders are tacky enough but being a advertising billboard for a car dealer, no thanks.

/end of rant.

Evening all.

So I finally caved and did it. Despite years of holding out and feeling EVs just weren't for me, I've gone and picked up an Audi Q6.

Had already pretty much decided that my next car was going to be an EV but not just yet. However the cost of fuel lately, combined with 90% of my travel being urban and my lead foot was costing an absolute fortune so I figured why wait.

I'm already totally converted and love it. Had my wall charger installed this morning which will do for literally 99% of my charging, only needing to use public chargers on occasional long trips.

Another convert to the fold! We looked at Q6's at the same time as the Tesla, slightly out of my price range at the time! Enjoy it :)

Thats exactly what I said to them, because you wanted branded plates on the car its cost several thousand pound. The lady who I ultimately dealt with said its difficult to argue against that :p

EON tells me it costs me £0.61+VAT to do my commute to my contracted office.

Bonkers!

Other half is getting a new job and will need the i4 a bit more. Worked out it’s cheaper to rent another EV than pay for fuel on the 435i…
