EV general discussion

The Tesla Halloween mode is great for scaring treat-or-treaters...say what you want about the Tesla gimmicks, but this is amazing

That's not what my manual says for utility mode:

Utility Mode on the Hyundai Kona Electric allows the main high-voltage traction battery to power all electronic accessories, heating, air conditioning, and USB ports while the vehicle is parked, preventing the 12V battery from draining.

It’s if it’s parked for a while like overnight for camping etc. Rather than use the 12v it uses the main battery and converts it to 12v saving wear on the 12v. If the car is on it will charge the 12v if it needs it I have a monitor on mine and watch it now and again. Jump pack is good if you are leaving it for a while as when off they still use the 12v a fair bit.

Got back on Friday from a trip to Cornwall and then Swansea in the EV3.
Efficiency wise averaged 2.8 on the way down in the high winds last Sunday, that was with car fully loaded, 3 adults, 2 small poochies and all the wife's luggage.
Driving around down there for a couple of days and up into high 4's.
Thursday drove back to Swansea and managed 3.9 and then Friday back to Derbados and 3.8, so not too bad. Better than the ID4 which is still parked up in the car park at work, as most I ever got out of that really was 3.4 fully loaded although it is a slightly bigger car.

I did start to get annoyed with all the bings and bongs though, but have since found out how to silence the speed one (for when you go 2mph over the limit). The most annoying one is the driver awareness camera that if you look away from the road for more than a second beeps at you. Stop putting things on a bloody touchscreen if that is what you want. I have done some more research and mapped a couple of shortcut buttons on the steering wheel to the menu items that are most awkward to get to.
No complaints from the passengers either about the comfort levels from the seating over the journey's.

Pretty impressed so far.

FFS, a stupid old bint backed in to our Tesla in the pub car park this afternoon. I was out having a vape and I watched her do it. I ran over and said "You just hit my car!".... "What? did I?" she says while I can hear her park radar going *beeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*. Her husband mumbles "I told you you hit it".

It's not bad and can be fixed with a smart repair I think. Just annoying.

Luckily you saw it, odds are she'd have just driven off.

Yeah, I reckon so. She was totally oblivious and was quite irked that I asked her for her insurance details.

One thing moving to Godalming has taught me is that many of these old duffers give absolutely zero *****. They'll literally pinball their way out of a car park and just drive off like it's perfectly normal behaviour. This afternoon I was approaching our high street and this old woman in a Jazz (because of course it's a ******* Jazz  ) comes down in the opposite direction, this is a one-way I should note, so I stopped to let her through. When she drove past I flagged her down send told her, and she literally just said "well I'm through now" and drove off.

We often curse younger drivers for being idiots but some of the things I see these blind old bats do here is just mind boggling.

I grew up in a little seaside village called Woolacombe. Full of oldies. When I was 17, I got knocked off my motorbike by a old woman pulling out of a side road. Not content with doing this, she then reversed and proceeded to run me and my bike over, only stopping when a passerby reached inside her window and pulled the keys out of the ignition.
She too was completely oblivious to what she'd just done.

Or she could see well into the future.

wouldn't you demand the police are called for a potential breathalyzer if you were hit in a pub car park ? even if no one was injured.
First bike accident I had was guy leaving a pub car park (called first&last) without looking.

Budget is 30-40k, I won't buy new so used 2 years old or so is fine. I'm quite picky on interiors.

Nothing Chinese.
A6-etron avant in budget ? if the rear passenger space adequate, can possibly get the newer version which reverts to steering wheel buttons.
