Ever won anything of value?

Three weeks ago my wife won a one carat diamond ring through a free competition that a department store was running. She'd bought me some aftershave and filled in her name and address on those card things you get for free prize draws. Anyway, she won a ring for her troubles.

Last week her mum won a car through a supermarket competition. Same idea - spend x on groceries and enter the free prize draw. Now, it's only a Suzuki Swift but that's a pretty decent prize just for buying some groceries you would have bought anyway.

I never enter anything. I have the "ah I'll never win it so why bother" approach, even if it is as simple as completing my name and address.

So, I'm curious. Anyone ever won a prize that was pretty valuable? If so, are you one of those habitual competition entrants or was it just a whim that turned out well?
 
Thats quite a good win, that ring must be worth at least £2.5k if its a single stone (I think).
I won a mountain bike in Kellogs Cornflakes once. Just poured it out onto my bowl and a little card fell out. Got to choose any bike I wanted from Halfords up to £200. Wasnt bad for a 12 year old kid at the time.
 
A girl in my class won a trip to LA, but that was for some kind of actual competition where she had to produce something rather than a 'enter your details here for prize' deal. No such luck here, though.

It's a single stone valued at $10k so about 5 grand sterling. Not bad for taking a minute to fill in a form!

A new bike at 12 would have been awesome. GOod job :)
 
Won euromillions 2nd prize, 4 numbers and 2 stars, got just over 6k from lucky dip, only bought the ticket on a whim after chatting about in car from a meeting
 
I spent a whole evening entering competitions on HotdealsUK the other week when feeling sorry for myself about not having a job :(

Must have entered at least 50-60, I bet i dont win a single thing :(
 
Best win for me was a Panasonic TZ7 camera about 12 months back :)

I'd been looking at them and was about ready to buy one as well :D

Not of particularly "great value" but a good camera worth about £250 at the time.
