I miss it so MUCH! :( It arguably stole 4 years of my life but I loved every minute of it!

Anyone else still miss it? I know its still out but its not what it used to be. I'm talking about the first 5 years or so when it was its best.

No other MMORPG has come close to it unfortunatly :(

EQ was epic...the raids were pure organised choas lol non of this 40 max rubbish- hundreds were often involved in some of the bigger encounters. Loved the thrill of the rare spawns and having several other guilds on the server after the same goal (no instancing)..its what made it harder and more of an achievement and gave each server its own community.

I should be finishing my dissertation but I've been viewing videos on youtube about it all afternoon lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jBNwFu_--s

..anyway just thought I'd vent that lol.

Having being the death-touch gimp for Plane of Air for 48 hours flat (you loose basically a full hell-exp level).. then spending getting my Spear of Fate (shaman epic) at 5am.. then setting off for work at 6am.. getting to level 60 cap before getting to 62..

No.. seriously I don't miss throwing my life away.

I played it for two years without ever getting a character above 35, which was when it stopped being fun :p

There was so much content, each new class and area felt completely different, it kept me going for ages without having to grind the endgame. You just don't get that now with new mmo's.

Me too played from kunark till sol ro mayong fight in solterus, tho after the pvp servers died and I went blue I didnt last more than 12 months, I miss the old eq a lot its just not the same now and well nothing else has really caught my attention like eq did back in velious

I do remember the 'old days' when you could kill guards, people were impressed when you had SoW and flippy was hardcore..

Played on Tunare server - was a long running member of Order of the Eternal Moon.

It wasnt a patch on Ultima Online. Very poor in comparison. In fact EQ is one of my pet hates, it destroyed the MMO genre as it was seen as a "success". Its the reason we have crappy instances and "leveling" in MMO's now.

I do and i don't love the time i got now but did have fun the first few years the grinding got a bit much at almost 7 years of playing, started a few weeks after it came out in 99.

Loved everything about EQ up until I finally realised that it'd eaten up too much of my life. UO was guilty of this too but EQ took it to another level, it just sucked you in.

What servers did u guys play on?

I started on Cazic Thule then when Antionious Bayle went live i transfered over...

Was on Druzzil Ro, then moved to Antonius Bayle.

Played for 4 years until Gates of Discord came out. Truly was an awesome game, even though I suspect the developers themselves don't know what made it so. WoW is too clinical and polished imo, bring back trains, kill-stealing, the /corpse command, massively unbalanced classes imo ;) - oh and don't spoil a PvE game with any of that PvP rubbish.

The game didn't patronise you. If you wanted a quest, you had to question the npc's in the hope of hitting on one. There was no nicely walled off starter zone, you could well get completely lost in greater faydark and end up in big trouble. No map, no torch, it was genuinely scary the first time it happened, same with wandering out onto the tundra in Everfrost.

You often didn't have cash for all your spells when you hit a new level. It felt like you were earning the rewards rather than just following the train tracks that modern mmo's lay down for you.

There's no risk now.. it's not like you can loose your entire equipment (as you could when EQ came out if your corpse rotted)..

Fennin Ro then AB for me.

Was in Raging Fury then Darkwind later on.

It was a top notch game that almost destroyed my relationship and career. But I still love it.

Seriously though... if you loved Everquest give Vanguard a try. It's the only game I've found to come even close. They've done some major upgrades to content and code. The dungeon crawling and questing are pure old school EQ with a lot of the subtle comedy you used to find as well.

If only more people knew how good it was I think it'd surpass EQ pretty quickly but at the moment there's just not enough players in the world.

Tried vanguard when it first came out but had problems with my 320 might try it again when i get a new card.

Well here is my EQ story anyway. . .

Bought EverQuest in July 1999, started off on Rallos Zek where I stayed over a year got fed up of the PK side of things, found a few british players & we moved to Morell-Thule server in year 2000 in which I created a guild called "United Kingdoms" & combined with a guild called "Legions of Valhalla".

Upon the creation of Antonius Bayle Server in 2001, 4 of us moved there & I created U.K there gathering a few low levels & started from scratch, the guild is still running now with well over 70 members, I still play the game as a Level 80 Iksar Beastlord which I created in 2002 when the Beastlord class was made available with Shadows of Luclin Expansion.

I have tried EQ II, WoW, Vanguard for about a month each & they are all too easy compared to the original EverQuest, people who tried Lord of the Rings Online have said the same thing.

Age of Conan does look appealing especially the combat system but I wont be trying it as it lacks orcs, elves, trolls, dwarves etc.

Tried Vanguard again last night, and I was able to bump up the some of the graphics options compared to what I had before and still get a smooth framerate. Looks well, but still has that EQ2 plastic look :p

Patch notes say griffon and wyvern flying mounts are available now too, which is cool, I could spend hours just flying around over that landscape.

EQ1 was classic, i got bored around lvl 50 but i still have memories of my first experiences (the chessboard in BB looked amazing), falling off the poxy elven tree village to my death after a night on the beer. Those are the things i miss, not the grinding but the fun times i had with my mates.

I couldn't go back to it now, i'm playing LOTRO which is so much less involved, and i still barely have time for that.

really dont miss it, had multiple characters, dark elf necro and gnome enchanter mainly, my gnome kicked ass, epic weapon etc... :D but it was before the many addons they got out, only kunark and later vellious, that was really the good part of EQ then they were aiming at too many addons and it ruined all the fun

The only mmo i truly miss, is UO of course now that's what i call a real mmo, everything nowadays is just basically the same thing(go kill monster, get exp, level, rinse and repeat until max level, when at max level go raid, raid and raid more till you have all that shiny stuff, then quit the game because it's just boring as hell) I liked the fact you could just go cut some trees or hunt beasts for hides or go mining or go PK, basically do whatever you want in UO... plus it was sexy looking i tough, none of this 3D eye candy that developpers insist on making and forget that a mmo is about GAMEPLAY... that's why i don't play any mmo anymore it's just plain boring...
