Every worry too much?

I expect everyone panders their first proper car

At least for me the obsession soon vanished and I now don't care about mechanical sympathy, my neighbours, my investment(s) my license :D

Neither do I park it in a shipping container 6 miles away :p

trouble is though, yours , robbies and a few others are kept immaculate.

I spent ages trying to keep my vectra that way and just never managed it. I think Princey has fallen into the same trap i did and tried to follow your act.

But its impossible if your gonna keep it on the street, park it in busy car parks all the time etc..

I do have to ask how do people NOT get car park dings at work? Every office car park I've been to is always busy and the spaces are not ideal. The current 306 already is showing signs of being parked in office car parks, which is frustrating at best considering I always park considerately!

I find the perfect space next to a tree or bollard, I then park impossibly close to drivers doors so they have to go round the other side and ding the car on the other side.

works wonders and because its a porsche people hate me anyway

I park in an empty unit next to my office, but yes I have had a few dings on previous cars from busier car parks. Luckily they haven't been expensive to sort out.

Thankfully at my workplace it's all good. Our bays are fairly wide anyway and people respect each others cars even though the bulk of the carpark is filled with company cars with only a handful of personal cars for building bound staff.

I used to worry about dings but it has faded for ages now and my car is still ding free :p Doesn't stop me parking far away when out shopping or whatever though.

Unfortunately thought this isn't always possible, especially as I'm in and out all day! But again this is one of the reasons I drive a diesel 306 for work!

...Still doesn't stop the scooby picking up dents when out and about :( I hate inconsiderate people and my cheap Japanese doors/paint!

My 306 was rippled down both sides, the Octavia on the other hand has one door dent that I picked up in France and judging by the amount of paint transfer that was hit with a hell of a whack.

I guess that the 306 must have just dented much easier.

Unfortunately I do worry about my car all the time. And sadly it has picked up it's marks thanks to idiots and their lack of care. But that is life unfortunately, it stresses me out stupid amounts when I find a new mark on my car, but you just have to accept it.

Im the same, everytime you wash it you find some mark that wont come off, then you realise its a dent or scratch:mad:

Just found a huge bit of paint missing on mine, but dont want to use touch up paint on it, heard it looks rubbish. Would look better than black on a bright red car though.

I will probably have to store mine soon too :(

Is putting a cover over it and leaving it on the drive going to be massively worse that putting it in a garage? Surely storing it for a year is going to cause a few problems too? Should it be turned over/driven every so often?

Knowing your situation mate i'd sell up and use the cash on your trip.

It's only going to depreciate while your away and cost you money when you get back.

2 trains of thought here:

1. Enjoy it and stop worrying. **** happens, just deal with it. You will screw yourself up just worrying about it. Had my the paint on my front bumper kindly splintered by some (most probably) woman on one of the first days she came out of the garage after the overhaul. Sorted it, got on with it and just live with the car. Much more fun to just enjoy it rather than wincing at the sound of every stone.

2. Clearly there are some logistics issues with other cars and the amount of use it gets. Sell it and be rid for the time being until circumstances change. Better to get rid of it and move on than wee money and time down the drain on the thing.

2.1. Store it at mine and I'll keep her warm and driven regularly. No storage fee :D

it's already depreciated.. it has 100k miles on :p

It's also just had a major service :)

My Carlton got scrathed on the drive outside my house. The Neighbours kid caught the handlebar of her bike and gouged about 8 inches down the boot lid. The mum came out and appologised and was very willing to pay and would not take no for an answer. When I gave her the bill she nearly passed out. Although I was very understanding at the time I was fuming inside. The car was immaculate and I spent a lot of time and effort getting it that way and then bang. But it happens no matter how much you try and protect the car.
Now I drive a Ford people carrier thing and a Vectra and all I care about is that I can get Radio 2 on the Radio, it starts and gets me to where I want to go...

Its like having a hot girlfriend and worrying that other people will find her attractive and leaving her because of that.

Enjoy it whilst you can, a ding here or there doesnt matter its what happens to things that get used.

It's not a value thing either. I had some lovely individual let all my tyres down yesterday :-/.

It's too easily to say '**** happens, don't worry about it' but it's still your property and it is still something that you care about, so having someone mess it up through negligence or being a general **** gets the blood boiling. I've had people damage cars of mine worth only a few hundred quid and it's made me want to completely go rambo. I'm allowed to damage my property if I want to. Some **** who wanted my parking space or can't drive properly isn't.

i've decided that all i need to be happy is a battered car from the late 80's.... hence why i'm probably going to sell my skyline gtr and stick with my little FC rx7 which is rusty and covered in dents and make do :)

They should get a job and stop being jealous. Cant stand people who vandalise or steal for fun/living.
