I "upgraded" to milleroils 5w40 nanodrive which was like £60 vs the normal £30 for castrol. It's done 3 track days and still looks like it did when I put it in. Castrol would be black and desperate for a change by now, so not all bad...

May try that wynns stuff thanks.

Wheres the combustion soot going if its not trapped in the oil easily removed when you change the oil?

Slight scuffing on the rear right side corner where I backed into someones car. No damage to theirs so I didn't mention it :o

Some more scuffing on the alloys from minor kerbage.

Also even some scuffing to the wing mirrors where I've caught the gate while reversing in. Only cosmetic things that I haven't bothered to fix yet.

Hi there

On the 911:-
- Interior rattle on certain road surfaces, never being able to locate it, almost sounds like a loose wire in the door panel, but it is minor and not annoying.
- Bigger rattle over bumps, this was annoying and fixed it, turned out it was under-tray hitting against a bolt which could be heard inside car, a bit of foam fixed it. :)
- Front brake disc, slight cracks around drilled holes, fine for road use only 1-2 track days left in them, shall replace soon or upgrade to girodisc all round.

On the Jaaag:-
- Odd rattles, but nothing major, it has done 150k miles and is nearly 15 years old, still mega comfy though.
- Fixed my miss-fire, turned out one of the new coil packs had failed under manifold, but the Jaguar specialist XJK replaced the coil under warranty free of charge. :)
- Diff, jerks at low rpms, known issue.
- Ashtray won't close, bit of blu-tac fixed that.
- Aircon don't work, pipes corroded
- Door locks have a mind of their own.
- Drinks oil.

So hey the 911 nothing really, the Jaaag many little niggles but I love it as it was an absolute bargain and has never let me down, apart from its radiator exploding one day, but that was fixed in a day for £240. :)

awesome idea for a thread.

In no particular order, the things that are wrong on my car:

  • It isn't an S2000
  • it has a small mark on the passenger door
  • the spare wheel cover is missing because it disintegrated
  • my alloys have a weird crazed pattern on them if you look closely due to a rubbish refurb
  • there is an aircon pipe missing that I still haven't got round to sorting [regretting that decision this weekend]
  • there is a scuff next to the centre console that i did whilst hamfistedly installing my stereo
  • there is a small scratch next to my passenger side rear light
  • there is a break in one of the heater bars on the rear window that i cant fix as it had tints put over it
  • my inlet manifold cover has a big piece of plastic missing off it
  • the bolt that holds down my air intake is a pita to get out
  • my air intake will not stay in one place.
  • the rubber edge around my air intake always peels off and perishes in cold weather
  • my two central blowers put out hardly any air even when set to max
  • the cup holders in the center console don't actually hold any cups
  • the scuttle panel rattles occasionally if the air intake slips below where it is supposed to sit
  • my lights interfere with my radio

Thankfully this is not my daily driver.

Rear wiper blows the fuse - now unplugged.
Drivers side door doesn't unlock with the fob, just needs a new solenoid but its a pain in the rear to get to!
Alloys need a refurb. Cant decide if to replace them or not yet.
2nd Gear crunch when cold and 3rd sometimes wont engage if under to much load. Makes for some entertaining encounters!
CEL on when idle/overrun - Dodgy ECU unable to read the TPS causing 100%wot all the time. This is will be getting sent off soon to be repaired!
The horn is dead, a local garage did some work and it came back like this, some dodgy after market air horn so not to bothered but really should get around to getting it sorted!

Pretty sure the ECU and Horn were caused by the garage using one of those battery boost starters but got no proof unfortunately!

My Golf it is pretty much spot on bar some minor car park dinks.

AC stuck ON (great in this weather, not good for MPG)
Rear washer not working
No screenwash left
Annoying bumper scratch
Creaky leather seat
Fog light bulb blown

Other than that the car is great for a 52 plate Mondeo 1.8

Alfa MiTo (This ought to be fun)

- Brakes squealing like a mofo (needs new brakes really I just haven't got round to it yet and they breezed the MOT so clearly not too bad) I'll get these done soon however as they're driving me mad.
- lacquer on front brakes flaking off making them a lovely orange colour now
- wheels need a refurb (all 4)
- Alfa soft as **** paint resulting in a ton of paint chips and road rash on arches. (front bumper respray and chips away man planned)
- Windscreen wipers are **** and doesn't matter what blades I use they still make a racket and leave a thin line across the centre of screen.
- Several small dents, one courtesy of a door and another I think courtesy of the cat (he's a big boy)
- USB mp3 player likes to throw a wobbly quite often.
- bulb behind temp gauge works when it wants (not really an issue as needle is illuminated separately
- really annoying quirk with the windows where if I put them both up from my side at the same time the passenger window actually goes down (lol alfa electronics)
- various rattles
- I snapped the little bonnet holder cup thing that it sits in when the bonnet is down. Sits in fine still though, just doesn't "clip" in.
- snapped one of the battery terminal covers because I'm a ham fisted oath.
- couple scrapes on the bumpers one becuase it's lower than the MG apparently and the second because I'm an idiot who reverses into things (though this one is a tiny little nick in the plastic however and barely noticeable).

That's as much as I remember.

Nope there's more:

- seat creaks (No i'm not fat)
- seatbelt sensor on passenger seat doesn't detect my gf sitting on the seat but detects my work bag :s
- Wheel nuts have gone rusty so need to pull these off and paint them up with something.

Mazda 3 '05 74000 miles.

  1. Trim rattles.
  2. clonk when going round a corner at any speed (no idea where from).
  3. 1st gear is a pile of shuddery pantaloons.

And it's soooo slow.

jesus that Mito sounds a nightmare, they are fairly new too!

The ole girl is 4 years old now so no not really old but hardly a nightmare none of the issues listed are really big deals plus about 50% of them are down to me, the previous owner, or wear and tear. There's a lot of scrapes and dings on that list. The brakes need changing and are due really, just haven't had the time to do them.

The rest are minor build quality issues, surprise surprise as alfa build quality is pants, or electronics which are worse. Only big thing I've had go wrong though is gearbox bearings being replaced (good ole M32 box ) luckily that was under warranty. The ones that really **** me off are the mp3 player and the wipers.

Been chucking about 1200 miles a month on the old girl so I'm not surprised it's taken a battering as it's not really designed for long commutes. Once I'm back to working in London and not using it much I'll take the time to patch it all back up again, in the mean time not worth it. Being an eejit and driving into things probably doesn't help it I'm sure you can sympathise with that one though. :p

2001 Ford Focus

Bodywork is terrible, most panels have a little rust on them, couple of doors are worse than the others. This seems relatively standard on some Fords of this era though.

Engine is tappy when cold. When it warms up its fine.

About 1 in 30 times when it starts, it cuts out instantly then comes to life

Fan control is broken, so I can only blow air at the windscreen (which is a pain in this heat!). I can still vary the heat/speed though

Cigarette lighter socket is temperamental at best

All of my centre caps have been lost, and the alloys are a bit shoddy

Boot button on the dash wasnt working and is now aided with some folded up paper on the inside of the button. Not ideal, but it works

A/C doesnt work

1998 Corsa Breeze. First car, £600 almost 2 years ago.

1. Oil leak somewhere, have to keep checking/filling.
2. Coolant leak, seems to have stopped with a bit of RadWeld.
3. Sendai head unit has a few quirks and a mind of its own.
4. Exhaust silencer has spun almost 90° on its axis meaning the rubber loops/mounts at the end of the silencer don't sit on their hangers properly; fixed with cable ties.
5. Suspension has seen better days.
6. Right tail light doesn't work. Tried fitting new bulbs and fuses without any luck. Still investigating this one...
7. Handbrake light illuminates when turning right.
8. Odd noise from front left when turning right.
9. Pipe leading to rear window washer has split.
10. Rust around most lower edges of bodywork.
11. The clutch cable/bolt is held in place with string as the thread has been stripped.
12. The bulb behind the external temperature reading is dead.
13. It's a Corsa B.

Roll on the insurance expiring and the arrival of a dad mobile (C-Max / S-Max, still undecided). :D

14. Just remembered the couple of times when the electrics briefly failed causing both the speedo and rev counter to drop to 0 and then recover while driving at 70.

Definitely time for a new car.

My 2002 Audi tt 225:

Exhaust leak, just a little one somewhere.
Cam chain tensioner gasket leaking.
Either trailing arm or hub bushes are knackered on the rear.

Problem is, I can't do anything about them until I get a proper graduate job! So the car is sat on the drive until money starts coming in :(

'07 Toyota Camry Hybrid - 55,000 miles

Biggest issue is bodywork. Had some minor damage when we got it from the previous owner, and I've added a bit here and there :p Have tried to touch it up myself and it looks a mess. At least it doesn't stand out now (and you can't see anything wrong at a glance), but up close it's awful. There's just no way I can justify the cost of having it all done properly, so I'm stuck with it.

Pulls to the right. Had the alignment done at the last service but now it seems worse if anything. Haven't had chance to take it back.

Annoying rattle from the back somewhere....think it's the hybrid battery vent.

Rubber seal thingy around the passenger door is coming off.

Think that's it :)

'97 Prelude 2.2 VTI - 91k

In no particular order...

1. Cracked windscreen, possibly caused by...
2. Rusty A-pillar, just a little bit but right the way up one side, I suspect caused by a bad previous windscreen removal.
3. Sticky rear caliper pins.
4. Little bit of rear bumper sag.
5. Possibly the worst scuffed alloys I've ever seen.
6. Doghair on the back seat!
7. Steering wheel very slightly off center. Could definitely use a full geometry check.
8. Heavy clutch.
9. Needs new rear discs.
10. Small scuffs on three out of four corners thanks to parking on a street where most of the cars are owned by blind old ladies.
11. Wheezing aircon.
12. Water in the rear lights.
13. Needs new mats.

All pretty fixable once my cashflow resumes, although the rusty pillar is a fairly major concern long term.
