EVGA Pascal cards hotspot problem

How long are the pads going to take? I applied for them about 1-2 weeks ago, would really like the pads so I can just patch this problem and not have to worry about card overheating etc.

Nothing other than a confirmation to say I asked for them.

Would be good to have this done and dusted a.s.a.p.

Don't want to have to wait for an age and find out I have the issue harney notes as that would require a full refund I think.

I have no idea when EVGA will send the pads, but they better send then quickly. Don't understand why they haven't?

From what i've seen on the EVGA forums they had to order the pads cut to their new specifications( for the VRMS ) and now the memory pads are having to be added to the kit . THen i'd guess they have to be shipped to UK i know some of the usa people had the first pads sent out already.
Hoping the new kit will be final and we wont get yet another thing that needs added.

Hi Simon

Please note here firstly the pads are entirely optional and not essential at this stage. My suggestion would be at this stage to try the BIOS revision when it is released tomorrow to see how your card performs. This is simple to install and a guide will be issued to help. If you still feel you would like more advanced cooling then you can apply for an RMA to fit the pads, it is a simply proccess on our site - http://eu.evga.com/support/guestregister.asp or mail [email protected] and they will help.

Thanks
Ben

whats the process of updating the bios if you have 2 cards in sli? do you have to install it twice or how do you go around updating the bios?

"Q. How do I apply the BIOS to both cards on an SLI system?
A. On SLI systems the BIOS is automatically applied to both cards."

I had to wait over 2 months for the card, now I have to wait again for pads.

Huge Epic fail this gen EVGA :(

I read this on another forum :

"I received my kit this weekend and installed it. The directions clearly state that if you physically damage the card while doing the temp mod your warranty is void."

Then another reply saying this :

"I have spoken to a german customer service agent, and he made it absolutely clear, that if I break the card while applying the pads, I get full coverage from them and a new card."

Can EVGA please confirm the situation with this.

EVGA have categoricaly stated in their official forums (it's on the very top stickied post) that should a customer damage their card fitting the "optional" thermal pads, they will honour the warranty and accept an RMA. And this comes from one of their top senior product managers.

Hope this puts your mind at rest.

PS. If you want a good laugh, have a read of some of the posts on the above thread. Some of the posts are ludicrous. I can't understand how some of those folks ever managed to build a PC in the first place.

I'd rather not apply evga's band aid fixes for them.

As soon as it became clear there were issues with the pads on the vram not touching as well, i was done with this card.

Still not heard anything concrete regarding my requested refund. But i am going to keep pushing for it. I have no faith in the design of the cooling solution.

With both mods, the vrm temps are still 85c which is 20c higher than any other brand.

There is a fundamental design flaw here and the mods are nothing more than desperate patches and damage limitation.

The lifespan of the card will most likely be reduced. I decided i didn't want to take the risk on a flawed product.
I read the 1080s are louder now with the mod, but not much difference with the 1070s. Other brands will run quieter. Going by these results in the link below you're right about the temps.

Fair enough, I can appreciate why a fair few folks will think like this. The situation is far from ideal. As I've said before, let's just hope that everyone, can in the end, come up with a solution that satisfies them. Though I do think the EVGA should be maybe offering a full refund themselves to people that want that and maybe an extended warranty to those folks that want to keep theirs (though I think that would want to be fully transferrable as well).

Personally, I just want this situation sorted, one way or another. If only so that I can stop having to read the threads on the official EVGA forums;) as it's doing my head in

While I acknowledge EVGA made an oversight here, I still feel this has blown way out of porportion !
Comparing how many EVGA GTX 1070/1080 cards that have been sold, and the number of issues stated, I don't see anything that isn't "comparable" to other situations (and vendors) where one may search for "xxx card overheating" and you find a hand full of sitations about it. I recall the same "issue" with the ASUS GTX 780Ti Platinum Ed. cards some years about with the same vrm "issue", but still the hype-train didn't leave the station, and very little was even spoken about it and still the "issue" wasn't common at all.

If the vrm issue really is so severe (and common) then I feel we should have seen something like a wildfire with cards bursting into flames.... but we haven't.

Yes it's a pain in the *** that EVGA made this screw up, but at least they are taking action to correct it, and perhaps more importantly they try meet the consumers wishes about reducing the temperatures even more, albeit they state the vBIOS will be enough.
I have seen many other manufacturers going a totally different path ignoring the consumers.

So yes I understand if you just purchased a card and this gets out and you're disappointed, and you want to get another brand of card - I'd likely to do so myself.
However having run 1080 SC SLi for 4months+ with extra OC and with a custom (more aggressive) fanprofile from day 1 and having installed the new vBIOS, I am not at all worried about them.

I'm just ignoring it as the results on sites are from people running Furmark to get them over 100c, if I game then they shouldn't be getting any higher than 80c. If it dies within 3 years I've got warranty so it should be good.
