EVGA Pascal cards hotspot problem

I'm just ignoring it as the results on sites are from people running Furmark to get them over 100c, if I game then they shouldn't be getting any higher than 80c. If it dies within 3 years I've got warranty so it should be good.

Until you upgrade and try to sell it only to find its resale value has taken a kicking.

you cant get a refund unless your purchase is within 30 days.

for those of you who have had the cards for more than 30 days a refund wont be issued, the only thing you can do is update the bios yourself, apply for the thermal pads and fix yourself, or send back to evga via RMA and be without a GPU for a few weeks or pay £600 in advance deposit to get a advance RMA.

SLI users have to pay double deposit and so on.
 
man EVGA is going to have some amazing over-engineered cards with great low temps when the 1180 and 1180tis come out :D

Evega do seem to be supporting customers through the processes whatever decision they choose to make.

Ive found my concerns have been addressed straight away.

My first card from evega, not the best introduction but the level of support, fast positive responses to questions is exactly what you want in this situation.
 
This was my first time going with evga from launch and this issue plus a 3 month wait has put a little bit of doubt in my mind for future purchases. However they are handling it well with free pads and no quibble exchanges.

I bought the 5 year warranty a while back and my card is under water so it's unlikely to affect me but I am covered if it does. Now if only I could find a card that doesnt buzz like hell.
 
My card is quiet as a mouse, i have to say. No coil whine and fans barely audible. Prefer the design to all the others too. Most of them look a little too barry boy, fast and the furious for my liking.

But effective cooling is absolutely fundamental to a modern high end graphics card.

They do seem a good company who looks after their customers.

Just a shame their 10 series cards are so flawed :(

I don't want to downplay the vrm issue but its interesting to note another side of evega's design and support.

They are confident that customers can easily disassemble the cards and performer the repair themselves.

You could view this negatively, but presumable customer dissasemble is something evega have to take on board with the design of cards and its factored into the processes.

It's allowed them to deal with this fast and in a flexable way.

When things go wrong the flexability of having the option of self repair as opposed to having to return and run the risk of coil whine etc is welcome.

Interesting feature of evega cards that you can do this and suggests evega is confident enough in its design and support to offer this option.

I think for many of the other card manufacturers they would either of ignored the issue or offered a recall and replacment with a refurb card.
 
I would also like to add that I think some people have blown this way out of proportion.

A problem has been discovered that may affect some cards when run under a synthetic benchmark that simulates conditions most people will never experience.

Is there a problem with the cards? Yes. However, it is hardly unique. In fact, there is a thread a little further down this forum about Msi having problems with its cards.

Gripen90 also mentioned a problem Asus had with their 780Ti's.

The point is, these things happen.

What's important is how the company deals with the problem. In this respect, I think EVGA has done very well. So, they now offer:

Free pads to fix the problem, which involves a relatively simple installation.
RMA even if you damage the card during installation.
RMA so they can fit the pads and return the card to you.
RMA and replace the card (with advanced replacement available).
BIOS update that fixes the problem with minimal noise increase.
Refunds for cards purchased over 30 days ago.

I can't imagine any other company going this far. Most would probably just offer you a RMA replacement, which would most likely be a refurb, and that's it.

It is exactly their customer service which is the reason I have just bought my second EVGA card, and will continue to do so if they carry on the way they have.
 
who promised you a refund, that is not true its gossip. Ive been told by a senior staff memebr at OCUK that a refund is NOT possible, only RMA and pads.

For all we know, Ivan may not even have bought his card from OCuk :)

Out of interest, which senior staff member?

If bought from EVGA direct, then they will refund if within 30 days of purchase.

Have to agree it does seem rude and we dont know where he bought it from.

Does the UK have any sort of consumer law about this? I know a good few retailers in Australia and New Zealand are offering refunds for this regardless of age.
