EVGA Pascal cards hotspot problem

IvanDobskey said:
Wasn't bought direct from EVGA, no.

They asked for invoice details to be uploaded to my registration on the website as proof of purchase though.
The retailer I bought mine from said they would deduct 10% as a restocking fee. I still don't think these cards are fit for purpose, unless the fixes are put in place one way or another.

Still undecided on what I'm going to do, but thanks for the info. That's really good of EVGA to refund you.

EVGA won't refund you, the retailer has to.
Yeah the retailer will most likely issue the refund once EVGA refund the retailer.

Yeh, i suspect the retailer will actually issue the refund. Once EVGA recieve the card, they will probably contact the retailer.

I'd rather pay the restocking fee than be stuck with a poorly designed card that isn't fit for purpose.

Get it sent back for a refund.

Yeah we are both on the same wave length, it's been bugging me the last two weeks. Glad I asked now, if I go through EVGA least I won't have to pay a 10% restocking fee hopefully.

Thanks for the info it's appreciated. Not sure what card I'll go for now. :(

Yeh, fingers crossed no restocking fee.

Shame as i like evga products. They just messed up with the 10 series :(

I was going to just fit the pads, but then i heard that the vram pads had a gap and thought enough was enough.

Probably go for the zotac amp as a replacement.

Just out of curiosity, who did you contact?
I cant seem to get through to anyone on the EVGA UK phone number, always kicks me to the US centre.

I too would like a refund now that all of this has come up. I also have a rattling fan which developed an exact month after purchase date.

Contacted EVGA europe through email, still have no response

I just phoned the uk number and selected english.

Took ages listening to a beeping sound, thought the line was dead when someone answered.

I gave my name and email address and he looked me up on the system and asked me to upload proof of purchase to my registration.

Not heard any more since i did that this morning though.

Dare not order a zotac until i get actual email confirmation.

Can i ask which selections on the phone did you speak to?
Was it sales or what?

Problem is, the cooling issues are on areas that have no monitoring. The gpu itself is well cooled. Its the vrms and vram that aren't.

That's why EVGA did the vBIOS update, to better cool the vrm's and it does have effect, just watch Gamernexus article or video on youtube by Steve Burke - they got FLIR images.
Measuring it with my own IR thermometer it did have an effect with increased RPM.

With both mods, the vrm temps are still 85c which is 20c higher than any other brand.

There is a fundamental design flaw here and the mods are nothing more than desperate patches and damage limitation.

The lifespan of the card will most likely be reduced. I decided i didn't want to take the risk on a flawed product.

I bought my GTX 1070 FTW last month and was quite disappointed to see my first evga product had thermal issues.

Just called up EVGA EU support, the UK call centre didn't pick up and apparently after 3 mins you are transferred to their US tech support team. They took my details, registered the card and said they would arrange an advanced rma to be sent out upon confirmation from the UK team and paying the hefty collateral via paypal which I personally find ridiculous.

Provided I get a new card with all the thermal fixes applied then it's all jigga :D

I can understand why you decided to return the card, vrm temps are clearly not the best and higher than the competition even after having to make significant alterations to the card.

Its not 20c higher than any other card at least going by Guru of 3d's thermal testing its certainly hotter than the best performing cards though and still 5c more than other cards at the hotter end of the spectrum.

msi 1080 75c- 80c

Zotac amp 80c

Gigabyte 70 c

It is disappointing having to go to considerable effort taking the card apart not to be getting a solution that is comparable too or better than the best performing cards.

I ordered the thermal pads from evga last week. Am I right in thinking memory pads are being sent to me as well in the same delivery?

I'm sure with the thermal pads installed the GPU will be fine. While I am disappointed a little I still love my EVGA 1080 FTW. It's a beast of a card. This isn't the first time cards have had issues like this and it wont by the last. MSI is having issue this week. Who will it be the week after???

Leaning towards the zotac amp right now.................Severe design issues leave me worrying for its longevity and resale value though.

5c difference in v.r.m temps between the amp and a fixed evega at least for the 1080's.

Perception and worry makes all the diffrence, I would be happy if I had the amp and will probable be more concerned in future overclocking my evega card even though the diffrences are minimal.

Completely Agree

been saying for a while now since it all started.... one of my clients did in fact get a full refund the others let me do the fixes for them but all 3 cards i have done thus far had gaps on the vram

and so it starts REFUNDS ...

They should offer the choice of a refund anyhow but i am sure its an hard one to swallow..
