**EVO: Tyre Test 2007**

Depends on the car and the way you drive.

The last 3 sets of tyres i have had

Nangkang (Dealer put them on when i bought the car) 5,000
Bridgestone RE040 (the worst tyre by far , no grip in the cold) 4,500
Barium (sp) made by Continental 6,000

All of those are front tyres on a Pug 307 XSI 2.0L with ESP and traction control on all the time.

Well of course it depends on the car and the way you drive, but my wife had the car from new, with 2 sets of Bridgestones and 1 set of Goodyears on the front before she sold it, and at trade in the fronts were nearly illegal and in half the distance she covered on the Bridgestones. The Goodyears were the better tyre as I said, but had poor life in them, on that car, in this situation. She drove it the same across its life, hence my point...

And no...

1) The tracking and geo were not out
2) The tyre pressures were too high or low
3) She did not drive it like an idiot on the Goodyears
4) She didn't all of a sudden get into burn outs

But, just like the Evo test, its simply 1 car, 1 driver on 1 certain set of tyres, nowt more. She has a diesel now, so they should last for 100K per corner I hope :D

You wouldn't use Goodyears new F1 (with stiffer sidewalls) becuase you once tried some Toyos?

I can see where you are coming from. Personally, I wouldn't touch a Honda, becuase I once drove a Nissan.

Honda's are very sensitive to tyres, Honda now recommend RE050A for all S2000s now the S-02 are discontinued.

I have tried loads of tyres, F1s were the same on my Rover. Didnt last long enough either. Although I am aware that these new version of F1s may be better.

Agree with that as on my Leon Cupra they were a nightmare.. On PS2s at the moment in the test size 225/45/17

Certainly going to have a look at the new GY's. I had the GSD2's on my old renault and they seemed very good.

I just got a price for 225/40/18 Y Eagle F1 Assymetrics fully fitted for £94 - Elite Wheels and Tyres. Pretty damn good considering the PS2's are £130!

In Reading? I went there, decent service too.

A mate got some F1s at high Q:rolleyes:, he thought they were cheap at £195 for the pair fitted after they originally quoted £325, they chipped all his spokes on his wheels they slipped  (LCR)

Yep the one in Reading, do you know what their alignment services are like? I need to get this done as im sure everything is out. Gutting about the wheels, a mate of mine had that done by a back street place in Reading, they had some little apprentice doing the work, and he lay all the wheels face down

Got 2 x Eagle F1 Assym. 225/40/18 Y's put on the front today plus tracking as it was well off, for £220 all in. Pretty pleased about that. Bracknell Tyres if anyone lives in the area.

Would be interesting to find it if Micheldever are stocking them and if so how much. Thanfully my PS2s have full tread on the rears and a fair amount on the fronts. (will soon disappear with more rolling roads!!). But I'll certainly check out the F1s. I was going to go for Dunlop Maxx but not now..

Me, they are amazing, went easy for 100 miles and now have started to push the car more with them on, the grip was amazing with the PS2's on the front, but these feel so much better, especially in wet weather.

Mmm interesting. What size are you running as I'm running PS2's all round at the moment and can't be doing with the huge cost that goes with them!

Vredesteins showing up near the top yet again and getting very little response from everybody yet again. I've been waiting on a set of those Ultracs being delivered to my local fitter and should be getting them within the next couple of days. Surprised they came up as far as 2nd though, I genuinely didn't know they were that good :) And at £97.50 each for 245/45/R17 I'm doing alright pricewise too (plus getting the good ol VAT back after that yay)

I rang the 3 cheapest tyres places in my area and none of them stocked Vredestein. Plus Goodyear are only £5 extra a corner (on internet sites) so why settle for anything less than the best?

I'll be calling Micheldever for tyres when the time comes. Failing that I'll see what JKM my friendly VAG specialist can come up with. They can get most things in. My size is 225/45/17
