**EVO: Tyre Test 2007**

How tiresome.

Arent the F1s reputed to have soft sidewalls? If that was the case, and he has tried tyres that also have soft sidewalls would he not be able to have made at least some comparison?

The Asyms are a markedly different tyre to the GSD-3s - in design, in compound, in tread, in construction etc. F1 is simply a marketing nomenclature to denote their top of the range tyre. The GSD-3, anecdotaly, is supposed to have *slightly* softer sidewalls than other 'hard' tyres but those comments aren't in relation to the asyms.

I've been happy enough with the wear rate on my rear F1's. They are almost finished for road and must have done the right side of 10K. Only wet track days though, but my old front F1's seemed to last on dry track days ok when I was finishing them off.

If F1 eagles have been so good for so many years, then how comes BMW, Ferrari and some of the really powerful Saloons, Supercars and Sport cars are not using them.
As you know - OEM cars/bikes/anything don't always use the best parts because most stuff is built and sold to maximise profit.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050-A

Hmmmm. Be a good replacement for the standard CTR RE040s?

Need some in 205/45/R17. Any ideas?

plastic tyres would be better than the RE040's on the CTR. They're truely awful and ruin the handling of the car IMO.

(RE040's on the Elise however are awesome)

Hmmm.

My rear tyres are at about 1mm. Fronts are at 5mm.

2x 255/35 R18 Michelin PS2's = £352.38

2x 255/35 R18 Eagle F1 Assym's = £270.14
2x 225/40 R18 Eagle F1 Assym's = £223.14
All four Eagle F1 Assym's = £493.28

So for £140 more I can get 4 of the, apparently, best tyres.

Very tempting!

You still enjoying the CSL Gibbo? How is it to live with as a daily driver?

Hi there

As a daily driver to me its absolutely fine. Its no worse than any of the previous cars I've owned. To me its a comfy car which is mostly down to the seats admittedly. Its a little thirsty at 18-19mpg but thats no doubt my driving, but the same style of driving in the Stang returned 15-16mpg so I did expect a little better from the CSL, but nothing to loose sleep over.

Performance wise its not slow, has not got the intial grunt sub 80mph like the Stang had but into three figures its not too bad, certainly quicker than one would expect.

Handling wise, its just too good for the road, to push this car to the level where its fun and enduces a grin means silly silly speeds, you can take corners well into three figures with relative ease, crazy stuff.

I really like the car, but its not got the character of the Stang, fair enough I can get through the twisties quicker in the CSL but in the Mustang I'd probably have more fun whilst not been hugely slower.

However I bought it because it is a joy to drive, I made a profit on the Stang and the way current CSL values are going I will no doubt make a profit on the CSL too if I sell at the right time, so it was a safe financial purchase. :)
