** EVO TYRE TEST 2012 **

It's worth mentioning that Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymmetric 2's are on special offer at Camskill in 225/40/18 (a common front BMW size). £107 each!

Perfectly reasonable imo, I paid £240 for the same tyre/size on my Mondeo last year, hardly breaks the bank but also puts into perspective £38 Conti's on my GF's Ka :p

Ahhh that's my tyre size too! Decisions, should I buy now or wait until I genuinely need tyres...

Surprised by the aquaplaning results on the goodyears but agree on the bit about road driving. They don't feel as linked to the steering like the Bridgestones. The pirrellis sound worth a try though.

Just noticed they are also comparing 91 with 94 load ratings which will have an impact on steering feel. Higher load tyres tend to have stiffer sidewalls.

Exactly. I've actually directly compared the S001 to the F1 A2 on the same car, same pressure, same bit of tarmac, same time of day and in 245/40 R18 the Goodyear offered much better feedback and steering response, which shocked me as Bridgestone ALWAYS usually offer a nice sharp turn in. As with everything, YMMV.

Was very surprised to see how poor the eagle F1a2s were in the aquaplaning test though, these were top of my list but now I'm unsure.

Michelin made a big deal of an accident research piece they did with the Primacy 3 launch. In short, only 1% of all accidents are caused by aquaplaning. Personally I think it's over weighted in these tests.

I wanna know the source for their tyre prices

I'm led to believe the pricing came from http://lovetyres.com

As always, I've tried to do my best as summarising the test for those who can't get the magazine, or don't want to read the PDF:

The F1 A2 aquaplaning result is a little confusing, as it was at Goodyears home track. Goodyear don't know what happened either, thoroughly confusing.

Nice to see the overall pattern of premium -> midrange -> budget reflected in the overall results too.

Just plumped for a pair of F1A2s from black circles. At just over £100 fitted can't really complain, also get a bazillion clubcard points.

Could I put them on my car? Currently has 225/45/18:(

mazda 6 estate. It currently has Dunlop SP Sport or something on, which are truly awful tyres.

What do I win :)

My dad has the 6, and I've been putting him through various stock sizes as I didn't like the idea of the smaller profile.

So far the Dunlops have been far the worst, a pair of Falken ZE912s were ok, but the wet grip fell away at about half treadlife and they were quite noisy.

He currently has a set of these: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Uniroyal/Rainsport-2.htm and is very happy with the comfort, noise levels and grip, especially in the wet. One of the cheaper 225/45 R18s too

The pirellis are a surprise to me, given how they seem to be widely slated and rarely given much consideration. Is there a new p zero variant? And if so how does one check you're getting the new version..?

The P-Zeros that came with the ST were hideously bad.

I swiftly changed them over.

A kiss?
I was looking at the Rainsports myself, actually. They seem to get decentish reviews. And what with autumn/winter coming they seem like a goodish choice for damp weather.

Current tyres are at the end of their useful life, definitely need replacing within 1000 miles (3 weeks) I reckon, and are OK in the dry, and although I've not driven hard enough to find myself in trouble in the damp/wet/greasy after rain road, I can definitely tell that they are utterly ****e.

They were brand new when it was winter, and were terrible in that too.

OP, mind if I repost your link to the pdfs over in the tyre section of Z4-forum.com?

Recently upgraded to Asymmetric 2s myself so am happy to read the results of this tyre test!
