Hi guys,

Got a very upsetting call today at work from my elderly Mother - she'd had an order of kitchen towels (£12 in value, form the famous South American river place) 'delivered' by Evri. Having looked at her Eufy doorbell, I can see the parcel attempting to be delivered, the delivery chap not getting an answer and then, out of doorbell cam-shot, proceeding to force open, partially, her electric up and over door... the idiot even photographed his handy work on the delivery email. Needless to say the door won't fully close now, I'm no expert but it looks/feels b*ggered!

She's in bits. Lives on her own and the garage directly connects to her home. I'm not with her now and I've told her to make sure the dividing door is locked at all times but where do we stand here?! I've calmed down now but I was seething earlier. Thoughts?

This won't be cheap to sort out and I don't see why we should foot the bill :(

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Yeah, start your complaint now. They should be paying 100%. Contact the local media, they’ll love a story about a vulnerable person being placed in potential danger.

You admit you're no expert, so how do you know it is actually going to be an expensive fix?

It's probably just slipped a few notches on a ratchet system, a very easy fix. Any photos?

you won't like this but tweet them and your local police with the pictures and ask how to proceed with criminal damage, tag a local paper for good measure?

You never know Evri support might reach out?
Done and done, thanks! Will wait and see. Have also started the Evri - 'chatbot' complaints process. Mum is also going to ring 101 in the morning and report. - more for insurance purposes potentially?

Her trusted handman has also agreed to visit first thing and see if he can sort/fix anything.

Yep, her local paper is always reporting on similar stories, oddly enough. I can recall a big fallout in the past when Yodel were doing all sorts of thing with people's post... I've drafted her an email but I've also Tweeted them.

Tag Amazon too, it’s THEIR courier

Mechanically it sounds very unhealthy, and I've told Mum to stop using it straight away. She's got someone looking at it tomorrow although I suspect she'll end up call out a garage door specialist.

Here's some internals to the damage caused to the lift bar:

Which have left inside/outside looking like:

This is just the resting damage - there's a lot more play when you actually put your fingers on the door :(

And the delivery itself:

Yup and probably done the op and his mum a favour inadvertently. If the leccy door provides access to the house I’d want it secured from the inside by at least a couple of bolts/padlocks or replaced with something more secure. If it can just be yanked up by the Evri driver a crook would have a field day.

A lot of electrically operated garage doors have a max travel setting that they "learn". Usually if they hit something or are forced it screws this setting up and needs resetting. So long as the door isn't bent I would imagine it's just a case of running the mechanism through its set up routine again.
