What is it with companies using excessive packaging? It's so frustrating. Just had this spare battery delivered from GoPro:

Yes, that's the contents still in the box. You'd have thought a company that purely deals with outdoor sports would care about the environment a bit more. More annoyingly than that though is delivery was £10. Why not just stick it in a jiffy and save everyone a load of money?!

Standardised delivery contract with a specific courier I would assume - most of their items will fit in that size box, or boxes that are multiples of that size.

Most of it will be recycled, or the box kept and reused by the recieving party anyway (esp if its a business), shipping dimensions tend not to make too much difference unless you go up in big steps, its more down to the weight and value of the item (insurance).

Amazon is awful for this, Ordered a micro SD card and it came in a box big enough to house a small Mexican family.

I had something like that from the rainforest last year. You should have seen the amount of paper it was wrapped in, I thought it was a joke!

Are they? I sometimes group a few items together to get a box out of them. Otherwise they send it in a cardboard style jiffy bag if it is a lone thin item.

It may vary, but the card came in a 6x4 inch plastic case in a box that was at least 24x36" with loads of the inflated balloon things.

I reused the box to post something I sold on eBay but a jiffy would have done fine.

I ordered 2 boxes of plasters from sports direct for a grand total of £1. came in a box slightly larger than the one in the OP. Freely packed so they were just flying around inside this box.

Rather pointless, but it was during a sale, so i guess they ran out of suitable boxes.

They ran out of smaller packaging, but didn't want to delay your delivery and end up with the invariable "My delivery was delayed because they ran out of small boxes. Just put it in a bigger box!" thread on OcUK by Russinating.

worst i saw was at my old company.

ordered some memory from IBM for the mainframe. it came in a 1m cubed box on a crate. all filled with bubble wrap and the memory was in the little packaging we all know about. im sure someone there was taking the ****

I wouldn't have bought it if delivery was £10. I would have shopped else where for a better deal.

Ha! I'm still using the paper that Amazon put in their boxes from two Christmases' ago to wrap eBay items.

My gf hates the amount of padded envelopes and stuff I hoard, just annoys me that people don't re-use this sort of stuff. New label, some tape, sorted!
