krono has hit the nail on the head, why would people want to spend more on the same product? Its suicide. And no offense to sony but MS are a far superior company and i can honestly not see MS loosing the console war in the end. Even if its not the PS3 i firmly believe MS will come out on top as they will make it happen!

I did read on 360era that sony may be releasing two diff versions 1 with blu-ray one without think it was on their any way. If thats the case then they are kinda going into the fight blindfolded. The one thing people are ranting about on the PS3 is blu-ray and if its cheaper to buy a console without it then no doubt it will sell a lot better if theres no need for it, and at this moment in time it isnt.

This would Sucide. They need the Blu-Ray to get Bluray market penitration. The money to be made out of having a propriery Format which all companies need to pay a royalties fee (or copyright fee or some sort of fee) to distribute these disks is emence. It would make them far more profit than the PS3 ever could.

No because of my point above. The money is in getting Blu-Ray into homes. Every film sold on Blu-Ray will be money in Sonys pocket. Every Blu-Ray DVD player will be money in Sonys pocket. Every blank blu-Ray disk. You guessed it. Money in Sony's pocket.

Sony Need the PS3 to have Blu-Ray, they need it to sell like wild-fire and they do not need to make a profit on the PS3 or its games what so ever as long as Blu-Ray becomes the next DVD Media.

I cant see Blue ray or HD formats becoming mainstream for at least 2-3 years yet

Why would Mr and Mrs joe public want to pay out all that extra cost updating their existing equipment and film collections for a slightly better picture?
lets face it if you have a HD or normal TV and are playing DVDs through it still looks fantastic

By the time Blue ray or HD is common in the household like the DVD player is today both microsoft and sony will have released new games consoles

I think microsoft see this hence the HD add on for those that want it

The type of media these consoles will play isnt going to affect the next gen battle Good prices Good games and a Good experience is whats needed and so far My 360 looks Good for all 3

quoted for truth. Bluray/hd dvd wont take of for quite a while as its different to the vhs/dvd situation.
