It seems even getting hold of them is problematic (https://time.com/5636513/pentobarbital-executions-justice-department/) and there are question marks over how effective sedation is (https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/news/inventor-of-midazolam-opposes-its-use-in-executions).That was the argument for the lethal injection, which they were moving away from. Sedation drugs are significantly more available.
It’s pretty disturbing that state are resorting to paying cash for drugs from middlemen.
