whilst repairing a PC today it suddenly went bang during boot up, on inspection the CD in the drive had exploded ! I thought they disproved this on myth busters !

Did it all stay contained in the drive? i saw one once that exploded and there were shards of cd sticking out through the gap at the top of the loading tray.

yes the drive bezel was slightly bulging out, a couple of small pieces came out, we thought the PSU had popped first or a cap gone on the board

I had this happen years ago while playing Porsche 2000.

Disk drive slowed down and the game crashed so I opened the drive as it was beginning to make funny noises.

There was a disk in lots of pieces all over the place! Urgh!

I would start crying now for what they have done to it.... :(

Never known a CD to do that although its still pretty awesome

What have they done to MW2? I remember reading that they could shut off cod4 to force people to buy the latest one.
Also something about not allowing dedicated servers ??? I'm a bit in the dark, i haven't kept on top of it sorry.

Years ago, i worked at a school, when they first 52x cd drives we on some RM machines.

A few had explosions (none at our school) and as a result RM issued us with fitted metal plates to be fitted to the CD slots to stop shards of CD leaving the units!

Madness, I think we lobbed them and never fitted any!

See the thread in the games section but in a nutshell, no dedicated servers which means the following:

Peer to peer multiplay only
No clans
No Mods
Huge amounts of lag
You have to buy additional maps from them at £10 for 3

Oh and they have also dropped co-operative play as well to "keep the cinematic performance at it's best"
