So I have just got a new work pc with a vtx3d 7770 xtreme gfx card in it. On the back it has the following connectors:

2x dvi
1 dp
1 hdmi

so i am trying to get eyefinity work and for the love of all that is holy I can't get the third monitor enabled.

I am using windows 7 64bit with the latest cat drivers.

I have tried a dp adapter that we had for another machine (This works fine when only one dvi/hdmi connector is used but as soon as the second (dvi/hdmi) connection is used the third monitor refuses to power up.

So I have had a bit of a google and it seems that I need an active adapter which may solve my problem.

If this is the case then will this work for me:

Thanks in advance.

I have two 7970s. But I did a limited test with a small bunch of games using a single card and found a single 7970 at its stock doing slightly better than my previous 6950 CF setup (also at stock).

Still, I upgraded to CF 7970 because the old setup wasn't quite enough to run the most demanding games at 6000x1200 and the highest graphic settings. Dropping settings a bit was necessary in some games like Crysis 2 and Metro 2033. It was still playable in those games, and to be fair, running them on the medium-equivalent settings, it was worth it. they still looked brilliant, but I came into some money and had the chance to upgrade. Definitely a vanity purchase rather than a needed one.

thanks for the confirmation guys. have brought one and an external hdd so should be getting those tomorrow.

Was close to getting a monitor as well but i had to restrain myself from such a large purchase.

Oh well at least I will be able to have a four monitor setup tomorrow after I have nabbed another spare monitor from IT Support :)

3 on the ati card one on the z77 built in gfx. Oh can the built in gfx card support multi monitors as well? Must go and check.

Why do you say brought? Thats like i brought the shopping in from the car not bought it at asda? just a thing that annoys me sorry lol.

What desk do you use with all these screens? It seems buying the desk will be pretty expensive also?

The HD 2000 and HD 3000 can support up to 2, the HD 2500 and HD 4000 can support up to 3, so it depends on the CPU you have and if the board has the right amount of outputs.

You two just go get a room :p.

i know its a gigabyte board. its a z77 and i think its a d3h. it has hdmi, vga and dvi on the back of it. it has the i7 3770 chip in it.

The 3770 has a HD 4000 IGP so it can output up to three monitors. The motherboard on the other hand, I'm not really sure of. While it does have the three required outputs, the manual only talks about dual monitor configurations. You may need to have a play with this with your current three monitors if you can and see if it works.

Long day (brain not engaged). :)

I am just using a standard curved office desk at the moment it should have enough space for me to have 4 monitors at the very least.

Three of the monitors will be setup for my development work as follows:

1) Visual Studio
2) Sql Management Studio
3) Test screen

The fourth will have normal office apps like word, excel, outlook, browser etc.

If I can attach a fifth then this will be in portrait mode for e-books and pluralsight training material.
