F1 2010 - God I truly hate Codemasters...

Have you seen the 2010 mods for GP4?

http://www.gp4-argentina.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4037

Take a look they are awesome and I don't have to pay for a complete new game next season!
And they have all the new tracks.

But we will agree to disagree :)
But the next time you start on pole at Brazil just remember that your on the wrong side of the track.
Oh and any game is playable no matter how bad it is.

There's no point fighting it deuse. He's so opinionated (with no evidence of his sweeping statements) you'll never get him to see your point. Ignore him mate.

His response of "Seriously who cares" to your statement about the game having wrong modeling of tracks and cars says it all.

Back in the real world, this is a dreadful error on Codemasters behalf, and just highlights even further their media/advertising-heavy incompetence over actual-quality business model they have.

They've ****ed a lot of people off in the last couple of years. Just vote with your wallet mate next time.

Unfortunately its just a lesson we have to learn from time to time.

So, what 'sweeping statements' have I made that you think I can't back up?

I said "Seriously, who cares" to the pole position being on the wrong side of the track. That isn't a game breaker, is it? It's a total non-issue.

I am fully aware of the GP4 mods, and while they are doing a great job with the engine, I can't get past the fact that it is an 8 year old game and the graphics/physics etc are terrible for 2010.

And about the pole being on the wrong side, I will consider it, for a millisecond, and then disregard it as completely unimportant. I can almost guarantee that if I spent the time looking at your beloved GP4 tracks, I would find at least 1 where pole is on the wrong side. It is such a non-issue that I can't get my head around you being so annoyed about it.

You conveniently ignored my question about which problem you have with the Yas Marina track that got you so worked up aswell.

GP4 is very old. Its showing its age and I love GP4. Its an amazing game but its showing signs of being almost exhausted. Have they got around the 20 car limits yet? And GP4 had pit stop bugs that never got fixed, you needed to use GP4twaeker to get around it.. And pit stops forGP4 2010 mods sees fuel added, so GP4 modded to F1 2010 isn't really a complete F1 package. F1 2010 is however, minus track marshalls and decent replays... Nevermind the small faults, every sport game has them...

The physics in GP4 is second to none, I admit its good. But sorry to say F1 2010 gloss tramples all over GP4 now. If Codemasters fix the AI some more, add better replays and take a look at GP4 and apply some of what that game did in 2001, then F1 2011 could be quite good.

I'm not saying GP4 is old hat, well I am in a way. I used to play GP4 all the time, but since F1 2010 its really hard to go back - even if the physics are better... I just can't, hard to explain but F1 2010 has kinda ruined GP4 for me now....

Shame, as F1 2010 is far from perfect but neither was GP4 to be honest..

Anyhow, we're meant to be discussing GFWL lol GP4 is old, its amazing its being updated so much after all this time testament to how much love it has, but F1 2010 adds the dazzle of F1 - it just needs the physics tweaking and better replays - Codemasters, listen to the fans.!!

I would love GP4 to be correctly updated to be like F1 2010 with the gloss and the GP4 engine... But it needs a lot of work, and code changes which I don't think modders can get around. Reason GFWL is worth the hassle for F1 2010...

A Geoff Crammond GP5 is my absolute dream game as an F1 fan, it would make me never even consider playing F1 2010 again, but all the people, who more than likely haven't played the game, saying that F1 is garbage are just a joke. I'm in nearly the same position as you, I played GP4 for absolutely years, and now I've played F1 2010, I can't see the pole position being on the wrong side making me go back to GP4 :)

I could see die hard F1 fans being a little upset but would it really stop you playing the game as pole is on the wrong side of the track? Codemaster however really should pay more attention. Less time with developer vids and more time watching real F1 and track data to get it right...

Sadly F1 2010 is about the best hassle free F1 game out at the moment, all other games need to be modded (some so much so, that the core game is changed with only the game engine remaining)) and it takes a lot of work for some of these mods..

I can rip into F1 2010 time trials in a MP4-25 and its near on as good as I'll get without spending too much time modding.. Sure its a little arcade feeling, but its quite easy to play... And that makes it fun..!! I don't spin out every other lap and I can bang in decent lap after lap using either a DS3 pad or my DFGT wheel, and this makes the game fun..

I see how some can be miffed F1 2010 isn't quite all that, but to me its F1 2010 and I'm enjoying it - faults and all. Its the attitude of codesmasters that concerns me more... F1 2011 had better be damn good next time around.

Agreed. GP4 was amazing at the time, right up until the 2008 mods were kicking about. After that F1 changed too much and GP4 can't handle the changes in real F1. The cars changed a lot, fuel stop changes, tire changes and the number of cars and qualify rules and, well GP4 can be made to look like a 2010 season but it'll never be true to life...

And after playing Spa in F1 2010 in the wet with 20% race distance, pitting for inters or even prime and watching, heck seeing the dry line appear, GP4 looks very dated.

Gp5 is the dream, but its not going to happen. We can only hope Codemasters expands on what F1 2010 has already done... And fix some of the issues F1 2010 has...

Anyhow, anyone looking to get F1 2010 and has the slightest interest in F1, this game is good enough. Sure it has faults, don't expect perfection but its not that bad... Read the full F1 2010 thread to learn more about it, we've derailed this thread enough..

I tried all that, no joy. The only game I've been able to transfer the saves across easily is Fallout 3. All others don't work. It may be because I went from a 32bit to 64bit OS.

You'd have thought Microsoft would link the saves to your gamertag, and not to your OS. Steam saves all my Valve games to the cloud so I can move between PCs and uninstall and reinstall games without worrying about losing my save games.
Its actually the way the devs decided to implement it not GFWL they just provide the tools which is why its so inconsistent as most games you can backup the save regardless.

Steam however only backups saves on games which support Steam Cloud (not very many you will find & nearly all new games which have Steamworks).

One thing I have noticed about F1 2010, is my system seems to run at full frame rate even on Ultra?!

OK! Another example at the poor design of this game...

On loading tonight a GFWL update came through...

Trying to play a time trial I got a message that I wasn't connected to GFWL, and was basically stuck in a loop. Would ESC take me out of the option and return to the previous menu? No...

Gave up and returned to windows to find a GFWL update sitting waiting for me to continue... Which was of course hidden by the game while it was active!

It's a mess!

Not at all... Here's an example run down...

- Start the game... Watch the the 10 seconds of intro videos... Get background music.... Ask for a Window Live account.
- Take option to create Live Account.
- Update loaded... Couple of minutes...
- Says needs to restart game to take effect.
- NO OPTION to restart/exit game... So out comes Task Manager.
- Start the game... Watch the the 10 seconds of intro videos... Get background music.... Ask for a Window Live account. Enter Live account...

- Says games needs a Gamer Live Microsoft something or else I've never heard of account? Offers link. So take link...
- Browser opens to invalid/non-existant page.
- Browse internet trying to work out what to do.
- Restart game again in an attempt to see if more help is in there...
- NO OPTION to restart/exit game... So out comes Task Manager.

- Browser opens to invalid/non-existant page.
- Faff around for several minutes wonder why all the references to XBox, when I DO NOT EVEN OWN an XBox.
- Finally by doing lots of random things...
- Start the game... Watch the the 10 seconds of intro videos... Get background music.... Ask for a Window Live account. Enter Live account...
- Asks for game key... Enter game key...
- Play game...

No one else thinks spending 20-30 minutes on the above it poor design? Including links to create XBox accounts which don't even work (invalid URLs)?

I must be fussy then...

Pretty shocking. Ignore the trolls; that is darn annoying. What happened to just playing a game?! On a similar note; I hate credits or intros you can't skip!

If you'd read the update message, it tells you to exit the game to complete install.

It's not ****ing rocket science.

I remember when Codemasters made cheapo, mildly entertaining games during the 80's

...now they have just moved onto gaming franchises, in which they regurgitate the same graphics engines over again, Colin McRae, Dirt,Dirt 2 now F1 2010..Oh don't forget LOTR. while they are not the worst (Star Trek Online anyone) game developers, why can't we see some original intellectual property in say the Mass Effect/Dragon Age genre from them...

As for Games for Windows Live, that has to be the most useless software on the planet.

Cheers

Von

Ummm... If you're taking that silly attitude... If the game really needed to restart, why didn't it restart? It's not ****ing rocket science! Or maybe offer an option to exit there and then (via ESC), rather than having to enter all the way into the game... to only then exit...

The problem seems to be two bit of software (F1 201 and GFWL) sown togethor, not very well... Sitting behind a poorly designed menu...

It takes literally 2 minutes, hardly worth getting annoyed about is it?

But it's not neccessary... As if the silly installation issues didn't annoy me enough, seems I can now enter into a game, which then downloads an update, and then lets me navigate around its menu to start up a game, only to then find out, I need to restart... Which it knew from the very beginning?

Here's a crazy thought... If an update downloads that needs the game to restart... Restart the game there and then! Don't let the user waste time, travelling around a menu system, only to get into a loop because the game hasn't restarted...

Maybe it's because I write software for a living these things annoy me. But to be frank it's pretty poor design (or integration)...

I to am having problems with GFWL, I reinstalled my system, but F1 2010 back on, I get prompted to download the patch, restart then game, get prompted again, restart, and this process just keep going on and on, tried downloading the standalone patch and no luck, it's becoming very frustrating.

Arrrg. Similar pain. It said it needed an update and repeatedly said that every time I started.

'Key' was to logon to my "account" on xbox.com, not gfw site (wtf?) and accept new t&cs.

Now it the game seems broken at 5040x1050. Reinstalling to see if I can fix it.

This game really feels rushed for release.
