F1 2013 Testing: Week 1 Jerez

@Jamesallenonf1

#f1 There were some rumours around this morning that McLaren had bought Cosworth. These have been denied by McLaren sources.

Interesting :)

I thought Aston Martin (Dave Richards) were trying to by Cosworth?

I don't really see the value in McLaren buying them? Why take on the cost of making your own engines when you can buy better ones from manufacturers?

Unless its for their road car program, and not actually for F1?

McLaren buying Cosworth.........cant see why they would do that at all for F1

(generally, yes maybe the team does need to produce its own engine in time - to get some kind of definitive advantage over the works teams, and while McLaren as a group produce certain parts for the whole F1 grid, producing an engine for (even some) of the smaller teams is surely a massive headache waiting to happen.)

News 2020: The new McLaren P3 super/hyper car powered by Cosworth :D

edit - Glad Ted finally sorted out his pronounciation of Jerez , it was driving me mad lol

There's only Marussia still using the Cosworht engine isn't there?

It's a shame really would be nice to have a bit more variety with engines, maybe if McLaren have purchased Cosworth we will get that. I suppose if they were looking to start making there own engines for F1 (and it's still a big if) the new regulations next year would make it a little bit less daunting.

I can't see Mclaren buying the F1 part of Cosworth myself. Cosworth used to be good but the tech they use in moulding parts is used by a lot of motor car manufacturers now

Have Cosworth confirmed they are building a 2014 spec engine?

I think this has a lot more to do with their road car program than F1 if it is true.
