F1 2013 Testing: Week 1 Jerez

Just catching up on Ted's notebook's from the last 3 days.

<3 Ted!

Yeah, he's really come into his own since halfway through last season with the extras Sky have been letting him do. It's great to see him genuinely excited about the finer technical details of the cars - something that is at least 50% of my interest in F1, and has long been all but ignored or merely glossed over by TV coverage.

Sky do indeed seem to be heading in right direction, shames its so slow.
They now running several off the car unveils, going to show the next test or at least the afternoons etc.
should have been doing this from the start and yes Teds show is good and not long enough. I think he could easily fill 30mins.

 I thought it was agreed all teams stopped the unnecessary practice of sandbagging in 2009...

I wasn't being serious suggesting Marussia were sandbagging. It was just a comment about the fact Chilton suddenly found 3 seconds. I expect all previous runs were higher fuel aero data work, and the fast one just a soft tyre low fuel run.

It would suck for Pedro if his entire Ferrari F1 driving career lasts all of 2 laps :(

Track looks proper broken too :(. Could this spell an early end to the test?

IS there some sane reason they only bring one car to these things, to force teams to use up fewer engines and parts? Surely having a spare car when car number one bursts into fire so they can do more laps is a good idea.

They are limited by regulations to only having 1 chassis in use at a time, and only 1 chassis used per day. They could bring 2 cars, but it wouldn't help situations like today with Ferrari, as they have already run one chassis so couldn't switch to another one until tomorrow.

But the main reason is simply that the teams only build one. Its a brand new car and its in development. They aren't going to build any more than 1 until they are sure that its working fine. F1 cars are not cheap, they aren't going to build 2 chassis and then find out on the first day of the first test that there is a problem that means they need to go back and start again.
