F1 2013 Testing: Week 2 Barcelona

Rosberg posts a flyer, goes fastest for the day. Prob a low fuel, "showboater" though :)

Looks like he did it on similar fuel to Vettel (or at least as many laps in a run) and more than Kimi so I don't think it was that much of a showboat. Hard to tell really.

Vettel did his several hours earlier did he not - so track would have been greener/ less grippy than when Rosberg went out

(pure guess as Im not aware of how many cars /laps were done in general between these two)

[strike]Yup[/strike] (checks.....) No, actually, Vettel's lap was done half an hour earlier so it's unlikely the track was much quicker. I think (?) he was on mediums too. It's not going to be a direct comparison, I'd be pretty shocked if it turns out Rosberg is actually getting on for four tenths faster come qualifying!

ok fair enough I thought SV's lap was about lunchtime, vs Rosberg about 4- 5ish, apologies

Mercedes topped the time sheets at a few of the test days last year... fat lot of good that did them :p
they topped the last test one year and everyone including the drivers were saying it was an impressive time.
come the first race they weren't that impressive

anyway merc have always shown good pace when the car is light but when its full of fuel it's always been a different beast entirely

Arknor, the difference this year though, is that they have a top line driver piloting their car. This is something which they didnt have last year.

[I questioned within the first few races of MSc's return that he is no longer capable of winning. People jumped down my throat for this comment. 3 years, 0 wins and being beaten by his team-mate every year in the WDC, I was proved right.]

One thing which Merc staff keep saying is that they aren't going for the title this year. The 2014 WDC is what they seem to be pinning their hopes on, so I wouldn't expect great things from them in 2013. Maybe 1-2 wins, if they are lucky?

Of course, when the season starts, anything can happen. And now that Hamilton is out of McLaren, with a new challenge, we may see some heroics this year.

Personally, I feel that (like MSC, Alonso and Vettel), Hamilton NEEDS the entire team based around him. He needs to be made to feel special. The darling of the team. Under these circumstances, he delivers his best performance. Will he get this backing at Merc - I'm not sure. A German team, with a German driver (Rosberg)...why would they back Hamilton over Rosberg?
